I was not surprised due to age/beauty (he is a nice looking fellow). I was surprised because except for one gay role on a cable movie most of his roles have been rough and gruff type characters.

I saw Patrick Stewart in Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" on (or at least near) Broadway shortly after that Cardassian episode aired.
