I suggest you stop in Berlin for several days. It is an incredible city, great museums, friendly people, rich culture, and friendly guys !! Prague is great for just walking around--really pretty city. Lots of tourists, but that bothered me surprisingly little. Watch out for the Segways (should be banned!) I stayed at the Hotel Icon--small and very centrally located (also right above Eclipse.) It is stylish, modern and the staff is great. Only downside is that it is not the most anonymous hotel if you catch my drift, not that I had any difficulty. You can get the full Prague experience in 4 or 5 full days--see all the major sites, etc. (I particularly recommend the old Jewish ghetto--you might consider taking a tour of it, since the synagogues are so beautiful and the history so rich.)

 

Berlin is fascinating, but not nearly so user friendly as Prague. Not a pretty city for which there are reasons. Allow time in Berlin. I found I could not cover even the 4 museums I wanted to see in 2 days, let alone the trendy stuff. Getting around and seeing stuff in Berlin takes longer than you might suppose--it is a very big place and things are spread out. Most museums are closed on Mondays. Met up with a huge Brazilian top named Aaron (review to follow.) I was not in Berlin long enough to judge it properly--never got below the surface.

The Mandarin is in a beautiful historic part of Prague, Malá Strana, but on the other side of the river and quite far from Wenceslas Square (Vaclavské Náměstí), the area "where the action is", the neighborhood where you find Escape, Temple, etc. If you are in a slutty mood, cany, it would be easier to stay closer to that part of town, like at the Radisson, for example. Just my opinion. Enjoy Prague, it definitely is a fantastic city.

I found the top vs bottom mix to be pretty much the same as everywhere. Smoking is more common, but I didn't notice any trace of it on the guys I hired. It is true that in Europe (especially Prague where it is legal) many straight guys escort to supplement their incomes--also, in Europe there are blurry distinctions regarding sexuality (more flexibility.) I did not find that the guys' sexual preference affected their performance much if at all.

I had a marvelous time in Prague last week (some good reviews to follow.) My very nice (and affordable) boutique hotel, The Icon, was located directly above the infamous Club Escape. I mostly had other fish to fry, but late on a Sunday night I decided to check out the place. After all, it would be a shame to go that far and not at least poke my head in the door. So, here are my observations:

 

On gets a card upon entering. The deal is that you use the card to purchase drinks. When you settle up with the bartender for your purchases plus the 8 Euro entrance fee, you present the paid card to the doorman when you leave. Drinks run about 10 Euros, not surprising for this kind of venue. The club is small with modern decor and set up like a lounge with a central performing area with poles for dancing. Late on a Sunday night there were about a dozen patrons and maybe 18 boys dressed in only tennis shoes and gym shorts. I estimate the average age of the boys to be 21 with many only 18 or 19. Most were pretty cute with nice bodies--basically the place caters to patrons who are into twinks. At any given time, 2 or 3 boys would dance on the little stage and swing on the poles showing off their naked torsos. Periodically, patrons entertaining a boy or boys at a table would order a bottle of champagne (costing ???) at which point a great fuss was made. Four scantily clad boys would enter bearing a kind of Roman sedan chair containing ice and the precious champagne bottle and present it ceremonially to the generous patron at his table (Good grief!)

 

Upon the hour, preparations were made on stage for a "show" involving spreading out a blanket over which was laid a blue plastic tarp. Enter three rather cute butt naked twinks each carrying a bottle of body oil. They proceeded to squirt oil all over the place, rub each other down with it, then writhe around on the tarp in a pile simulating sex. To be honest, the show had its moments. I believe they do the same kind of thing later with whipped cream, but I didn't stay for that. When the show was over, one of them passed around a basket for tips.

 

I tried to maintain a low profile, but was approached twice--inevitable. Once by a boy (not one of the performers) who wanted me to take him home for a massage (I declined,) and once by a boy for whom I felt no particular attraction. He asked me to buy him a drink, and being a sport, I complied. He chatted me up for a while fondling my thigh while I planned a graceful escape. Escape is the place for you if you are very self confident, into 19 year old twinks, like to flash money around, and enjoy being hit on repeatedly by attractive but predatory youngsters. Personally, I did not find the atmosphere of the place at all comfortable. I think the hotel is pretty much shock proof. I already had a few visitors there. Walked in with a 6' 5" drop dead gorgeous blond muscle hunk--the desk clerk took notice, but then who wouldn't. However, they must be dressed appropriately for the surroundings. I found the concierge at both properties very helpful in suggesting places to visit, and suspect that they were gay, although I did not ask directly !!

I stayed at the Maritim Hotel right next door to the Gemaldegallerie, the concert hall and the Tiergarten--walking distance to the Sony Center. Buses stop around the corner from the hotel. Very nice business hotel. Don't know the rates, since I was traveling with a tour group. My young Brazilian friend found his way up to my room without difficulty.
