Hi all. Never been to NO before, may go Easter weekend. What's the atmosphere going to be during that Catholic time in that Catholic city? Will things be shut down, or active and fun? (People advised not visiting Turkey during Rhamadan and boy were they wrong.) Any information from those who have visited then would be appreciated.

Also, I think we're choosing Soniat House over Windsor Court. How quirky is the service at Soniat House, is the design as gracious as it looks on the website, and is Windsor Court worth visiting for afternoon tea?

THANK YOU?!

While living there I never noticod any differences between Easter and any other weekends, except for the Easter Bonnet contest at Goodfriends. :-) I don't believe I have ever been to the Soniat House, but the Windsor Court, while being a premier hotel (or perhaps it is one), is a bit stodgy. May I recommend the french quarter W, on Chatres Street.

The Windsor court is a gorgeous hotel, with wonderful suites at a very reasonable price.

Two friends stayed there during my recent trip to NOLA and I was more than impressed.

We visited the W on Poydras and found it uncomfortable-but stylish, like a phillipe starck chair, and a front desk that was icy.

Service at the windsor was incredible, vasaes for flowers found, turndown service that was as thourough as most hotels maid service(they actually changed the sheets for one turndown!)a front door person that NEVER let you touch the front door.

Since it is what I do for a living service such as this gets my notice.

I also loved the bar, very old world. Also the location is MUCH quieter than anything in the french quarter-if you choose this hotel ask for a high river view-most rooms have balconies.

So yes,the clientele is older. But man the Windsor Court is an incredible hotel.

International House or The Pavillion are two other properties you might want to check out.

Go to Tripadvisor.com for more critiques.

The Windsor has specials if you book direct with them.

Good to see you posting again Rod.

There's a fun Easter Parade in the French Quarter, and that Easter Bonnet contest is great, too. If you get tired of the Frech Quarter (which isn't closed down at all on Easter), you can take a walk over through the Marigny to the Bywater. There's a bar/club there called the Country Club that has an outdoor pool, deck, and weight room. Nice to relax there if it's a hot day.

Thanks everyone.

BigGuy, take a look at soniathouse.com and I think you'll understand why I'm choosing it over Windsor Court. WC looks to be a fabulous hotel, however it could be anywhere. Soniat House, in the fart of the French Quarter, looks and sounds very New Orleans.

The parade sounds charming.

How much does the Alligator spotting tours on one of those Big-fan boats in the Bayou cost? Are they worth it. Can I fuck Christopher Rice while there, or is he now living on the left coast (bit of a twink for me, however maybe he's a vampire in which case he could actually be MUCH older)?

The Country Club on Louisa Street in the Biwater was one of my favorite haunts. I was Mr. Country Club 2002, and boy were my hands, lips, feet, and other unmentionable areas tired by the end of my reign.

The W I was actually talking about is on Chartres Street in the Quarter and is a really amazing tiny hotel with a very intimate (sultry) atmosphere.

Let me know if you want any info on what to do/see while you're in the area.

I just came back from NOLA was viting with my sister so there was no Hotel but I had lots of fun. I was there over St. Pat's Day and St. Joseph Day two Catholic Feasts but also had lots of fun with all the other things. ROD you will have fun in New Orleans if you try and don't worry about where its Catholic or not. Let the good times roll. HUGS Chuck50:P :p :P :p

I prefer the St. Pierre because I like the pool. I also like being in the Quarter. However, of the two you mentioned, I would agree the Windsor is very nice. But if you are looking for luxery and someplace in or near the Quarter, I would take the W that Jacob suggested.

As for tours, the cemetary tours are great and I would consider one of those; there used to be a Lestat tour but the last time I remember looking for it, someone said Anne Rice had sued them regarding the use of the name Lestat. I was never able to find out if it was renamed or simple cancelled.

I would recommend several placed to eat on Canal, if you want some specific suggestions, just private me as I would need to look them up. I would also strongly recommend walking shoes and to check the ten day forecast in case you need rain gear. Personally, I would not travel in April simply due to dubious weather.

You might also recall several months Kjun and several others indicated that the French Quarter overall had become much more tame due to enhanced prosecution and enhanced scrutiny by some more conservative elements in the city.

Rod,

I enjoyed eating at a restaurant called Tu Juags (spelling is probably off) It is a block or so down from Café Du Monde. The food was very good, with the wait staff in black tie. The menu consist of 6 or seven courses with a choice of 4 or 5 entrées. Their bar which is at the corner is also a great place for lunch.

I enjoy taking the trolley through the Garden district and looking at the fantastic homes. Each beveled glass door more ornate than the next. Great city. Had a ball. I am sure you will as well.

Would love to go back and find that tour Franco spoke of tho.
