Thought you might be interested to learn more about the people we are up against.Read it for yourself, but I'll summarize the parts most interesting to me.

In their own words, in an annual performance review, here's the percentage of DHS employees that feel positive about each statement, in descending order.

I am constantly looking for ways to do my job better. 86.13 positive %

The work I do is important. 85.85 % positive.

I like the kind of work I do. 77.15 % positive.

I have enough information to do my job well. 60.91 % positive.

My workload is reasonable. 54.99 % positive.

I am given a real opportunity to improve my skills in my organization. 46.76 % positive.

I feel encouraged to come up with new and better ways of doing things. 40.28 % positive.

My organization's senior leaders maintain high standards of honesty and integrity. 39.11 % positive.

I have sufficient resources (for example, people, materials, budget) to get my job done. 37.05 % positive.

In my organization, senior leaders generate high levels of motivation and commitment to the workforce. 25.94 % positive.

In my work unit, steps are taken to deal with a poor performer who cannot or will not improve. 22.51 % positive.

Promotions in my work unit are based on merit. 20.70 % positive.

pay raises depend on how well employees perform their job. 13.57 % positive.

Anybody surprised by any of this? I'm not.

The culture speaks for itself. It is an organization of people that want to do their job well, and think they have important work to do. Good for them! We all have a lot riding on effective Homeland Security. But they don't feel they have either the resources or leadership to do their job well. They don't feel they are rewarded for creativity or a job well done, and they feel that people who do their job poorly are not held accountable.

It's exactly the kind of organization that would launch a half-baked witch hunt against gay men, and then describe them as being part of a "global criminal enterprise" because they like consensual adult relationships with male escorts. Maybe they thought we were an easy target, and it would cover up their glaring weaknesses. Or maybe people who come up with poor ideas aren't held accountable. Or maybe they are asked to do dumb things by their organizational leaders, who they don't respect. Or all of the above.

I'm not sure which way to think about their resource problem. Part of me wonders why they would devote resources to a half-baked witch hunt against gay men when they are so clearly lacking in resources, anyway - in their own words, and in the words of other government watchdogs like the GAO.

Then again, $1.4 million will go along way, I guess.

Anyhoo, I think I'll stick with my job. I kinda like it better than the environment they work in.

And guys, can we be gentle with these people? I feel a little sorry for them. They kind of have issues, and I can kind of see where this might be going. You know, we all learned about these kind of folks when we were kids. They think they're bigger, better, and smarter than us, and they can just hunt us down. But are they? And will they?

I am not so sure that the figures would be any different for Americans working for other departments of the government. Those working for corporations probably have a similar response pattern.

Hell, if I answered based on the percentage of time I felt positive about those questions, my answers would be pretty close to those and I work for myself.
