Have bookings dropped since rentboy was shut down?

Revenue per day is up about 11% (versus pre-bust 2015), but that may be explained by seasonality.

 

I think for most escorts, the bust may not have a huge effect. I suspect I'll suffer somewhat more than most in that I lost my secure first page ad in Manhattan. Of course it'll be hard to know what fluctuation to attribute to the disappearance of rentboy versus other factors, and what would have been had the site survived.

 

I also find the replacement sites less friendly to use.

I can tell you that with a platinum ad on men4rentnow and a gold ad on Rentmen, my advertising expenses have decreased by 72%.

 

You are SPOT on KJ.

 

Although I was initially going kinda ballistic over the shutdown, I can now report that business for me hasn't been affected either. Clients aren't blind, they were looking at other sites when rentboy was up, they'll continue looking while they're gone. That's like if Kayak got shutdown. There's many other sites to book escorts, flights and hotels, including thru the hotel/airlines/escorts own website.

 

This in no way demotes the continued efforts of those to legalize atleast some aspects of the business, but as Killian said...rentboy being gone might be a bittersweet incident. The cost of their ads really dug into escort's accounts/pockets....and that just wasn't right. $99-$199 for 1 ad in one city with a slow return on investment in many cities? Now guys are going to see how much money they can save now.

 

My credit card also refunded my last ad payment I spent on rentboy as something of that nature is covered under my card protection.

The traffic to the RentMen profile has been higher than the daily traffic my Rentboy profile had. Asking if hiring is down is going to vary from person to person. No escort has the definitive answer to this.

 

To KJ's excellent observation, I would add that now that I'm forced to use RNTMN & M4RN more often, I've actually opened and visited ads of more established companions - such as studly KJ & others. Somehow the new packaging in another site enticed me, whereas in RB, I usually skipped the first page b/c I would make up a story that those folks would be way too busy/on demand. So, I know I've contributed to the increase in traffic pattern, and I've taken new routes...the key is whether I will be tempted enough to make a full stop & enjoy the scenery to its fullest potential

I think that you're enjoying increased traffic to your ads because having made your acquaintance at a couple of the DC Forum events you are an extremely nice guy, intelligent and friendly and your physical attributes speak for themselves. I posted part of this on a different questions, but "I am waiting for a new mega site to emerg (I may just build one when I graduate!!). It's been interesting to see the traffic shift from rentboy m4rn, then to Rentboy again. I have been waiting for an increase in traffic from RentMen or m4rn, but it has remained as scarce as it was before Rentboy's demise. Backpage is unfortunately where the traffic is.. And I have no way to track any of it!!! I hope these thoughts help shed some light on things.. Nothing is as black and white as it seems!"

 

I do believe that M4RN and RentMen have varied success, and it differs by location. My inquiries have risen, but it is coming from many different sources. I have a very no-descript ad on backpage with a few hot pics that has been generating a surprisingly high number of responses.. I think that Rentboy was the main game in town, and I believe that something new and totally different will emerge. Think Rentboy's status, Grindr's location features that increase accessibility, and social media's interactivity and reach.

 

On a side note, I have noticed a pretty significant drop in traffic on my personal website. Rentboy was generating quite a bit, and my all time highest traffic day was when my first review was posted here on daddy's reviews. I suppose perhaps it's time to redesign the site.. Modifying SEO, add social media, and try to connect with other site with content my my visitors will appreciate.

For you numbers guys here are some Vegas stats. I probably won’t keep doing this though. Todays stats are skewed since they are weekend numbers and the other numbers are midweek numbers. There are always additional advertisers on the weekend.

 

Column 1 are “ads” about two months before Rentboy shutdown

Column 2 are “ads” a couple of weeks before Rentboy shutdown

Column 3 are “ads” when Rentoy was shutdown

Column 4 are “ads” about three weeks after Rentboy shutdown

Column 5 are “ads” as of today.

 

I use the term “ads” very loosely. Many “ads” especially on Backpage and Craigslist are repeated by the same provider throughout the day. But it is the “trend” that is of interest.

 

Sorry, screwing with this but can't figure out how to add a table and it doesn't like my tabs. But you'll figure it out. There are 5 dates starting with 7/1/15 with associated numbers.

I apologize for being off topic and do not mean to trivialize your effort nor imply lack of appreciation,

but just for the benefit of my own curiousity, I was wondering if there was a way to use a fixed-width

font when entering text, and there is. Above where we type in our replies there's a string of icons

B I U A A Aa <link symbol> etc.; the sixth one over (the character a in two fonts) allows you to chose

a font like: "Courier New"

Which is a fixed width font:

Another more extreme alternative would be to use a program that

(Well, that's a proof-of-concept, but I have to admit almost nobody would ever go to that much trouble!).

So, this is really odd; today when I look at my own post using firefox on a different laptop it is hiding the leading spaces in the fixed-width example, but if I go to edit it they are there and the first two rows (starting with 1 and 3 are properly right justified and look nice. Oh well, . . . .
