And (I think) it is always easier to explain to the public when the target is a gay one. Of course, those coarse over-sexed, homosexuals are up to doing this sort of thing. Unfortunately, while we think it has lessened - and it has to a certain degree - there is still a lot of homophobia out there and they still don't think very kindly of gay people. Especially gay men.

"Quipped one activist, “The LGBT community hasn’t seen such harassment and intimidation since before Stonewall in 1969. This has become a City Hall war against gay consensual sex. Some wonder whether this is happening to rid the city of ‘gay sin’ prior to the arrival of de Blasio’s friend, the Pope.”

If so, did the mayor think of where the priests, bishops, cardinals, etc., will go now? Not very considerate.

Abel, Kevin posted on another thread that he had called them and they said they have a minimal presence in the US. He said he thought the guy he spoke to was in the Netherlands.

If RentMen is a Dutch-registered company, then they should be fine. If the DoJ tries to go after them, they can turn around & say prostitution is not illegal here, and Dutch businesses have no legal obligation to enforce US laws on the matter.

I wonder if our government can legally block access to a site for advertising something that is illegal in the U.S.

Exactly, Odinochka! Blocking access is a separate issue, though!

Theoretically, they can...but, they really are not going to do it for RentMen. Keep in mind, the DoJ does not block German gay porn websites, and some of those models are under 18--consent in Germany is 16. They do not go after Handjobs magazine--and it has artwork that suggests ephebophilia (sexual attraction to underage sexually mature teenage boys). Going after RentMen would call these other lapses into question.

You know I posted in another thread a few weeks ago about a Social Action Class I took at camp when I was 16. They showed us some pages from a porn magazine showing 'chickens'-most likely mimeographed with the privates blackened out. I'll bet they were from Germany if the consent age is that low. I'm surprised about Handjobs. If they found that on your computer, they'd arrest you for child porn.

Exactly. The Germany thing is widely known among those of us in the military who have been to Germany. As a part of your orientation brief, you are told explicitly about age of consent laws in Germany, and that if you get tied up with a 16-17 year old & command finds out, you will get a statutory rape charge.

The Pagesix article doesn't say what role the mayor or Da actually played. Perhaps none except to have been inormed about it. They mostly talk about the raids in Brooklyn.

People are making a bit much out of this. Rent boy probably generates less cash than the average massage parlor that gets raided,. The basic case here was a. Technically illegal business employing someone with a non-immigrant visa. We all know what a crappy operation they ran with its dysfunctional website and lack of basic consumer or rentboy protections, e.g., not even the simplest checking of pics. They aren't going to be the Stonewall of prostitution. They're more like small time criminals who were dumb enough to create a situation where law enforcement couldn't easily look away. Kind of like a marijuana dealer hiring an agronomist on an H1b visa. They're the ones who have put a chill on things. As much or more than Homeland Security.
