Hey Lawkid, do you have any idea why this indictment was unsealed in Brooklyn Federal Court, which is in the Eastern District, and not in Manhattan Federal Court, which is in the Southern District? The Rentboy offices are in lower Manhattan.

After looking at the client and escort list Mangattan had too many conflicts of interest :)

Here is the (partial) complaint supporting the arrest warrants. Unfortunately, I did see a familiar name . . . Killian J. No charges against him just a vague statement of his activity involving Rentboy. https://tribwpix.files.wordpress.com/2015/08/rentboy-complaint-redacted.pdf

Just to clarify - There are a number of escorts and Daddy'sReviews mentioned , but only the 7 employees are actually charged in the complaint.

I particularly note Page 9 #20 where the agent learned what a sling is and what rimming is.

Gman

I laughed at that too. But I'm sure she has only read about it, I don't think Special Agent Susan Ruiz actually 'gets any' hence the 20+ page detailed complaint.

While it's not about tax evasion, the Feds have seized $1.4M in criminal assets. I thought this practice was now banned. Maybe one last grab?

Why is Dept of Homeland Security the primary investigator? This seems a big stretch of their primary mission of catching terrorists. Police state creep if you ask me.

DHS handles cases involving moving money for criminal purposes across state lines and international borders, since that activity has so much relationship to terrorism.

The charges are under the Travel Act, using interstate/international travel and 'mail' (which apparently includes electronic correspondence) in the furtherance of the crime of prostitution.

I suggest you read:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Travel_Act especially the definition of unlawful activity

Oh, last word I had was the feds were after the cash. Some $10 million seized. We'll be hearing about back taxes soon I'm sure.

If you were reading some of the links people have posted here today, you would know that the $10 Million figure was revenue from 2010 to 2015. The Asset Seizure total was 6 bank accounts totaling $1.4 Million.

This from a Democratic administration that is "gay friendly". Maybe they are doing this shit to divert attention from the information most likely hacked from Hillary's server by China, Iran, Russia, etc.

Glad the DHS has so much extra manpower to devote to a Rentboy sting.

Now if they went after the escorts for false advertising: size of equipment, age, services provided, then I could see our government getting involved.

Could this be part of a vast right wing conspiracy? If they come after those of us who hire, can we claim that: "I did not have relations with that site."

It's 5:38P in California; I've just come here and read the first three responses, went to http://www.rentmen.com; it would not work! So guys, escorts and clients, where do we go from here?

Does the FBI have nothing greater or serious to do than to burst sites which deal with relations and company by one's adult consent?

Is that the office our new Attorney General came out of?

Just when I was hoping you wouldn't say anything more stupid than before...you do. No president, certainly not this smart one, is going to influence the decisions of any law enforcement agency. That's been done in the past with huge consequences and if President Obama did that the Repubicans would have something to investigate as opposed to what's only in their imagination. I imagine, when the final details come out with the guilty pleas we'll find out if there was more culpability than what's in the documents we've seen. If people are even simply evading taxes or money laundering, regardless of their occupation, they should be prosecuted. Did anyone know what Jared Fogle had really done until he pled guilty? No. I would be disappointed if the focus is just activities between consenting adult escorts and adult clients, so far they don't seem to be the focus, but even if it is was I wouldn't expect any elected official to interfere with career prosecutors, agents, cops, etc. Obstruction of justice, interference with an investigation, etc.. We want the laws regarding interaction between adult consenting clients and escorts changed, what are we doing about it? Answer I think is - absolutely nothing! So, step off this president and by extension his administration - on this topic at least. There are legitimate things one can complain about Obama and his administration for, just not this, particularly when the ultimate reasons behind the investigation may be more serious than we're surmising.

You surely meant to include North Korea in your paranoid list of hackers. And if the launch codes are being emailed to administration leaders at addresses that are obviously not those that are secured we have the bigger problem that real dummies have the launch codes.

OMG!!! I think you are the last person on Earth to call someone stupid. Putting the present issue aside, the POTUS is the boss of the US Attorney General and of course has, and will influence, the actions of the DOJ. You know, we are not all sicko liberal Democrats. Have a nice day.

So you're joining the club of dummies. But if you don't understand what obstruction of justice is or interfering with an investigation, etc., you don't obviously understand a president, or governor or mayor (etc.) would be criminally liable if they suppressed such activities. If you think a president can do that maybe you're thinking Russia and those others countries BJ was listing. I'm not sick nor liberal on every issue. Socially liberal, Catholic and fiscally conservative. You have yourself a nice day too. :)

The President is certainly overseeing every single investigation by the DOJ just like God is overseeing the outcome of tonight's Astro Yankee Game. I understand God has a C note on the Astros and the score it 16 - 0. Somehow I think President Obama has better things to be overseeing but God definitely is intervening in the Astro Yankee Game.

To add to frequentflyer's and purplekow's comment, President Kennedy was not a huge advocate of going after Jimmy Hoffa and the mafia. His brother, Attorney General Robert Kennedy, did his best to wipe out the mafia. The president did not intervene.

It's quite obvious you have a comprehension problem. The point I was addressing is your idiotic assertion that "No president, certainly not this smart one, is going to influence the decisions of any law enforcement agency". A ridiculous statement. And who said anything about BO suppressing an investigation? I didn't and yet you jump to the conclusion that I had. I seriously doubt BO has anything to do with this Rentboy drama.

Again, another one with a comprehension problem. Where did I say BO is overseeing this investigation?

Wow. I usually stay out of the politics forum, and now I see why. This thread is getting really nasty, really fast. Please take it outside, boys.

I think we all can relax as I don't believe they'll go that far due to privacy laws. They can't publically reveal that sort of information.

I disagree. The information can be revealed (by search warrant) if illegal activity took place. According to the NY Times, one of the 7 arrested is an escort. There are too many escorts and clients for the Feds to go after obviously but the danger is still there. It appears they will shut down Rentboy so I advise every escort to cut off their recurring monthly credit card charge for the monthly fee to Rentboy. Write contact information on paper. They will go after some escorts as they need to prove that prostitution was taking place.

What's the risk for those of us who have contacted escorts through the site and are registered as their clients? Any attorneys out there have any suggestions?

The risk is nil. They may need to subpoena some clients and escorts to prove that prostitution took place, but there are tens of thousands of them out there. Just say nothing. You have the right to remain silent. My guess is that the Feds have already collared the witnesses they want. You haven't done anything evil.
