No, but the cop to the left of him (our right) probably could have been.... Dylan was a mistake of nature who really should never have been born.

I don't think this is in the best taste. The guy was obviously severely mentally disturbed-and if not that then a truly sick and twisted person. He committed a heinous crime which will have repercussions to the families involved as well as our entire culture for years.

I tried to stop the progress of the thread my suggesting we order pizza. You were far more direct and the better man, Gman is not just a nickname anymore.

I'd be careful with the "mentally ill" diagnosis. That's often a way to single out the event as an aberration, when in fact something like this -- white supremacy -- is endemic and systematic. For now, my guess is that Roof was on the extreme end of the white supremacy spectrum, not just some crazy person.

Wholly agree. One of the shocks of getting onto Facebook six years ago was discovering that more than one of my high school classmates holds, and is happy to express in public, views very much like those in the online manifesto attributed to Roof. Naive and dangerous not to recognize Roof as symptomatic of a widespread, deep-rooted disease--moral, not mental--among us.

Exactly. Roof spewed hate and is a vile murderer. His parents should be ashamed of themselves and no, unlike the judge at the arraignment, I'm not planning any sympathy for them. The same judge that was admonished for using the "N" word in open court several years ago.

His parents should be ashamed of themselves and no,

More than ashamed, they should be charged with accessory to murder. Giving your troubled son a gun for his birthday?

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

That's the part that really baffles me. It's the Newtown scenario all over again. How someone can believe it's okay to give a gun to someone they know to be struggling emotionally is beyond my understanding or parameters of forgiveness.

Maybe they were hoping he would use it against himself.

A terrible thing for them to think, I know, but horrible thoughts do not seem foreign to them.

rguer, I agree, completely. I, too, considered that ulterior motive...then, I chastised myself for having that dark thought. I thank you for your post, it has made me less critical of my thinking.

This thread, by the title of it alone, should have gone right in the trashcan along with Dylann. I have rarely seen an attempt to trivialize such a horrific incident as, "Could Dylan Roof have been an escort?"

I doubt they even thought about that. My first thought is that they may have shared his beliefs, so wouldn't have wanted him to top himself. Regardless of that, I suspect they saw giving him a pistol as being utterly unexceptional and didn't expect this murderous expression of his beliefs.

Same here. I have trouble seeing the parallel between Dylan Roof and escorting?

Was the title of the thread just a "trap" to get our attention?

No parallel. Merely typical glutes setup.... He used post #1 and #7 to setup post #16
