This has been discussed several times, you may want to try using the search feature for the forums (the 'search' on a white background, not the search on the top frame). I know some of the discussion has been in the Street Hustlers section.

I think the consensus is that Vegas is surprisingly conservative, and that while many/most get lucky if they work at it there's nothing established because the powers that be would/do shut it down in an instant the second anything gets going.

I had good luck cruising the nearly deserted 'downtown' area during the day last time I was there, but there's definite risk of cops.

I wonder, has anybody ever tried to organize a 'gay Las Vegas' weekend, ala 'gay Disney' with the red shirts? If it got really big and showed the businesses how much money there can be in catering to gays maybe it could change things a little...

Interesting idea, big backfire potential though. Most gay men I know, myself included, have little to no interest in Las Vegas as a tourist destination. Sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Since Las Vegas has little gay life, gay guys aren't frequent travelers there outside the normal course of business.

Back in ancient times, I used to have to go to Comdex, CES, InterOp and other trade shows there. In the course of these shows, I tried to minimize my time in Vegas, because the city wasn't one of my preferred destinations.

Last year I made about 4 trips to lovely Las Vegas. On all those trips I found that the city is very much marketed towards the "mainstream" folk. I didn't let this get me down though. There are a few gay clubs there all though they are off the strip. I think it would be a grand idea to have a gay day or weekend showing the hotels that we do come in numbers and put out a lot of dough so that the hotels can be as glamorus as they are. Count me in and I wear a medium in shirts :-D

I returned from Las Vegas a few days ago. As others mentioned it is a very "straight" city. There really is no cruising area and very few gay establishments. Several hot escorts do live there and have reasonable rates.

This isn’t totally accurate. Obviously, for you and your friends it is, but since you haven’t being going to Vegas, you wouldn’t notice the changes in the last few years. I’ve been going regularly for many years and see more and more gay people there every year.

It certainly isn’t P-Town. You don’t go there for a GAY vacation, but you see little packs of gay guys everywhere these days. Especially at Mandalay Bay which seems to be the gayest of the resort hotels. The pool at Mandalay always has groups of easily identifiable gay guys, and go to New York New York around the time that Zumanity lets out and the place is crawling with them.

I don’t think Vegas is a great place to cruise -- most people seem to go with groups of friends -- but I think it is a pretty gay friendly town. Casinos do not survive by passing moral judgments. They may not think there is enough money to be made catering to the gay market, but they have no problem with gay guests.

There is also a gay hotel now. I have never stayed there because it’s too small, but I’ve got to believe that the guys who choose to stay there, choose it because of its hook up potential.

I've been to Vegas twice in the past 6 months and found nothing gay (except for a few seedy bars). I had no idea there was a gay hotel. Do you have more info such as name or address?

Conservative yet libertarian. Among original Nevada folk, people there before the boom, there is a real live and let live mentality. With that crowd, the desert was the enemy. The whole feeling of Vegas has sure changed over the years, and continues to do so.

Used to practically live in Vegas at one point in my life. Was frequently at the Nevada Test Site. Knew and worked with a lot of native Nevada folk in that context. The Mormon influence in Vegas has worked against the original, kind of libertarian feeling. Like it has in so many places.

I like to travel to Vegas several times a year (mainly to play poker). I agree that it does not seem to be a particularly gay friendly resort town. However, an interesting time to go there is during Las Vegas Gay Pride week. Last year there was a banquet held at New York New York Hotel and a circuit party at the Aladdin, in addition to the parade and weekend activities. What's neat about the Las Vegas gay pride parade is that it is held at night. Last year it terminated at Freemont Street downtown, which then had to absorb thousands of gay people that night. I was alone as usual and didn't connect with anyone but I still enjoyed walking Freemont Street afterwards and looking at all the old hotels that have been there since the second wagon train. This year Pride week is May 11- 16, with the parade scheduled for Friday May 14. The weather is nice there that time of year too, although last year it was a little chilly which I'm told is very unusual in May. Here is a web link:

http://www.lasvegaspride.org/

Right now it redirects to Southern Nevada Assoc. of Pride which has a link to some of the scheduled Pride week events. As the date gets closer there will probably be a dedicated web site for Vegas Pride week.
