Just returned from a 3 day, 4 night trip in Montreal. Experienced 3 escorts and had 20 or 25 lapdances, but whose counting? The surprise of this trip was Lux strip club and Taboo. Very positive experiences there. Unfortunately, my experience at the more popular Campus and Stockbar was lackluster.

This was my first time visiting Montreal after a 12 year separation, when I had last visited with a friend who attended McGill. This trip, 3 other friends from nyc flew up together for a guy’s weekend of food and frolick amidst Montreal’s great restaurants, spas, and strip clubs. Montreal remains a charming town but as others have reported, the vibrancy in the gay village has waned and shuttered stores and vacancies can be seen randomly along St Catherine, the gay village’s main drag.

Arrived late on Wednesday night, took the 0747 bus from the airport to hotel. For those who don’t know, the airport offers a very cheap (10$) shuttle ride at fairly regular intervals that is a more cost effective option than a taxi (about 40$). One can purchase a bus ticket at the kiosk in the baggage claim area and walk to the bus stop conveniently located nearby.

When my buddies arrived around midnight, we all went to Campus to check out the dancers. There were about 15 customers and same number of guys. A handful of cute twinks but also some more muscular and rugged (and older) types. Had a nice lapdance with Jake, a hot guy with dark brooding looks. He looked better on stage but when he came by, I couldn’t resist to do a few dances with him. Next, we went to Stockbar- the only place which charged a cover. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize by the time we paid and entered, it was ladies night. Girls (and I use the term loosely, as there were older women/ grannies in the audience as well) were all over the hot guys. Stockbar is replete with good looking Abercrombie boys. If you go on their website, stockbar.ca, you’ll see all the ones available at somepoint. I lusted after William(who was there but only stuck close to an older man all the time) and Denzel. Denzel is the ideal blond, superhot, Chippendale dancer who flies between Las Vegas and Montreal. Unfortunately, he was a little too swishy in speech, but who cares if he’s grinding you? I took him for a spin and had a good time but nothing spectacular. We left Stockbar at 3 and went back to the hotel to recuperate.

Thursday, night we were a bit more adventurous and went beyond Beaudry metro station and went to a place called Lux, ( I think it was formerly known as Adonis as reported by others in this Forum). At first, I thought Lux was a sleazy brothel fronting as a stripbar filled with street kids on crystal. One of the dancers looked like he didn’t have any teeth and a few of the strippers looked like they could use a big mac or two. When I was about to give up on Lux and leave, Derek, a beautiful guy who is worthy of Stockbar material or Adonis (in nyc), comes onto stage. He is a dead ringer for Ryan Gosling. His dance moves and stage presence was just mesmerizing. How he spinned upside down or spread his legs showing his winking butthole, I don’t know how he did it, but I was in lust and was ready to cash out my 401K. Don’t even recall how much I spent, but did spend a lot with him-probably at least 10 songs. He seemed hesitant to pursue other things outside the club but was very willing to provide me a good time in the private.

Friday evening, we went to Taboo, which is just slightly north 1 block of Papineau metro station, not even 5 minute walk from Lux. That place was hopping with customers and twinks and some muscle boys. Here, unlike the other 3, I actually saw “strippers” and their customers leaving together periodically like a rotating turnstile. As Taboo is located next or downstairs from the Dorion hotel. I later learn that the “hotel” is a short term one and is available for 15$ plus the stripper’s fee (I was told it was 300, but I’m sure you could do much less with negotiating) plus the standard escort rate on rentboy was about 200 or so. The privates I got from Adriano, a hot Romanian gymnast or Dominic, a studly masculine francophone, were pretty good. They were both willing to make me quite happy. To me, Taboo was the place my buddies and I returned to again on our last night (as well as Lux) as these 2 seemed the more approachable stripbars that provided a nice intimate setting to get to know the dancers. The dancers all report that the most generous guys were not from Montreal but from Toronto or New York/ US. So, please keep the stripbars alive and running…. Would encourage a visit to Montreal before the gays move out of the village and these stripbars become a thing of the past.

It's funny how one line can make you open up Orbitz in a new window. Your line about Ryan Gosling did that for me. lol Excellent write up... much appreciated! I was planning on taking a summer off from Montreal, but I may reconsider now. I had a similar experience with Lux. It's offbeat and quirky but if you find the right guy, their private dance area is actually private. (Imagine that!) Ever since Campus ditched curtains, I wasn't anxious to go back to Montreal. I've never tried the Dorion route for Taboo boys. If it's only $15 for the room, I'd be down, but yeah no way would I pay $300. I'd just give them a take or leave it at $100 for a half hour. I doubt many would turn that down.

Well, judging by how busy the boys were walking out with the customers at Taboo, i think you could probably offer a respectable amount and get away with a quick roll in the sack. The lapdance area is very well monitored by the manager/owner so the boys are extremely careful not to cross the line, but they certainly pushed boundaries....

Any sense of which Montreal clubs would be best on a Monday or Tuesday night?

They're all so close together, you can try them all:). Some might not be open on (one or both of) those nights -- this has varied in the past.

In all my years of going to Montreal, I have yet to observe any fixed pattern of which nights are busier at which clubs.

I'd rather share it out in the open :) so we can all benefit from the info. Jake, was actually quite interactive. He stripped naked after the first song and let me play with his butt and slapped his cock into my face. I wasn't into sucking it as i prefer my cocks clean and fresh. He had a nice musky smell if that is what you are into. He was also into dry kissing and played/sucked my nipples (which turned me on and made me very stiff). Very sweet guy and great looking.

I think it's worth keeping in mind that Canada's laws on prostitution changed last December. Here are the details of the new law:

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/canadas-new-prostitution-laws-everything-you-need-to-know/article19610318/

Until that change prostitution was legal (except for street solicitation, under 18, use of a brothel, etc).

The Quebec Court of Appeal had already ruled under the old law that table dances (with or without touching) were prostitution, and the new law simply says sexual services (without defining them).

The new law is very much aimed at the buyer.

Quebec police haven't started going after strip bars (straight or gay); but, I keep remembering that the raid on K.O.X. in 1994 was explained by some as the police union wanting to embarrass the city's politicians and put on pressure during negotiations. It's hard not to notice that Montreal's police are again in negotiation (and combat pants of various colours as a pressure tactic).

@john1973, he was the Armani model circa 1990s :) but truthfully, it was dark, I was horny and he was offering something. the whole weekend there was a blur as i moved from bar to ATM to bar to ATM to hotel.... Fortunately, the US dollar goes a bit further there and the cost to travel to Montreal from nyc is not prohibitive nor long, compared to flying to rio or cuba. I think it is worth another long weekend trip :)

@JR-Mtl, thank you for sharing. It would be interesting to see what happens over the summer and to observe what the police will be doing... (if anything). I think there is a large stripper culture in Montreal/Quebec. Judging from the guys i've met, it seems a lot are college age guys looking for a quick buck or farm boys without many other prospects that decide to strip. I met an accountant from Ottawa who is doing stripping on the side to build a nest egg.... odd, but true. I was very impressed with the spectrum of the audience which included nice looking gay guys out for a good time to elder gays on canes. The strippers appeared nice to everyone but spent a lot of time with a few older guys who i presume are their sponsors or bigger customers.

Thanks, Cany. I saw Jake under bright lights and you're right, he's great looking. Glad you agreed with my description of his throwback features/type.

I was at Campus when the cops made a routine visit. They went all the way to the lapdance area, though I wasn't in that section at that time.

They left without incident. The dancers seem aware of possible issues with the law and are good at keeping an eye on the entrance to the private section while grinding on you.

Cany,

Great write-up...thanks for the posting. I'm afraid that like the Gaiety in NYC, the strip clubs in Montreal may be running on borrowed time, but as long as they have a pulse and I do as well, I'm glad to make the pilgrimage to Montreal. It seems there's always one or two shining stars you discover on every visit that make you glad you came. Curious to know if the privates you had were off-site with dancers? My preference is for buff bodybuilder / fitness model types...which Stock used to have in spades and Campus had mainly in the evenings...was that your experience?

Hi Brett, no, i did my privates onsite... you'll find in my report, that the object of my lust was a hot dancer at Luxe...a Ryan Gosling look-alike.. He was muscly and had the best moves and was very generous in private. You'll find lots of handsome muscular types at Campus and Stock but i'm not sure if i would call them body builders... Anyway, it's worth visiting as you never know which hotties will be on rotation. Plus, the walk along St Catherine from Campus to Taboo is only 10 minutes. You may loose a lot of money along the way, but i'm sure it will be well worth the experience.

Any more reports from Montreal ? Looking forward to a visit in early August - hope to find the Ryan Gosling look alike and many others.
A friend and I were there in mid-June and had a great time. He hung out mostly at Stock; I was mostly at Taboo. Pre-9 pm Campus, usually my favorite hangout, was disappointing. The Canadian dollar, down another $04 since June and now at $0.77, makes everything seem like a bargain. (We looked for the Ryan Gosling look-alike, but didn't find him...of course, we found it hard to spend more than 30 seconds in Lux, so maybe he was in the back. :))

Just back from Montreal and found the line-ups at Campus and Stock to be solid, though a little lackluster. Among the stand-outs at Campus were Jason, Roberto, Jessee and a blond twink whose name I didn’t catch but who did an eye-opening vertical split on the pole during his routine, and was probably gave the best stage performer of any of the dancers I saw this weekend. No sign of Kevin the Firefighter or Wilson alas at Campus this weekend.

Then line-up at Stock had a sexy tall muscular Spaniard, think he goes by Santiago; and the very hung Argentinian named Maximo. I did find the dancers at Stock to be much more aggressive about pursuing lap dancers. Unfortunately, I missed seeing many of the dancers that I remember from the past including Michou, JP, Cedric, Kevin among others. It seems that the shelf life of dancers is pretty short these days. Given that this was a peak summer weekend, the clubs were busy, but not completely full. Maybe some things were in low gear this weekend in anticipation of next weekend’s Montreal Gay Pride Weekend.

I was in Montreal last week for Pride, and I thoroughly had a great time. Rue St.-Catherine was very lively...something I wish they could sustain even when it's not Fierté.

I was at Stock Bar Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday; Campus on Thursday and Saturday. Both bars had a sizable crowd of mostly older patrons, slowly getting younger as the week comes to an end. By Friday and Saturday, I would say it was 60% young ones.

There was a heatwave that hit the city, and it made getting lapdances a very uncomfortable situation, at least for me. I got lapdances from two guys from each bar, but didn't keep them very long as I was perspiring profusely and felt gross. It's a shame because those that I agreed to get dances with were very good-looking—they were exactly my type—but I can't concentrate on the bare chest in front of my face while I'm busy wiping sweat from my own head. I even stop them when they lean over and kiss me on the cheek as a sign of thanks.

Couple of memorable guys at Stock were Alfie, Denzel, Ben, Joshua, and Michael. (I wasn't attracted to any of them, but I remember meeting four guys who have the same base name: Max, Maxim, Maximo, and Maximillian lol) At Campus, there was James, Christopher, Damon, Dimitri, and Sam (I think his name was). Many of them were there specifically for Pride Week they said. I assumed a good number of them are gone by now.

Stock has curtains for privacy in the lap dance area, Campus doesn't. The songs at both bars are nice and long, and the guys don't start dancing right away--they're happy to wait for the next one.

I received roughly the same amount of dancers talking to me, even though I was at Stock a day more, because Wednesday nights are Girl's Nights there. So the dancers talk to the women more than the male guests. I do like it as well in general!

I visited Montreal last weekend as well. I had the time of my life. St Catherine's was filled with beautiful men all weekend and the clubs definately were on point with the talent as well. Campus seemed to have improved with talent since my last visit and was quite enjoyable. Lux was nice but wasnt that busy. Stock was outstanding as always. Saturday was quite festive during the day and Sunday's parade was quite enjoyable as well. I give the weekend 5 stars.

I visited Montreal for Labor Day weekend. Of the strip clubs I only visited Stock, but it was probably the best I've ever seen it. Very busy on both Friday and Saturday. Lots of good dancers, and generally better stage performances than I've seen in previous years, eg dancers properly moving on stage and engaging with the crowd. Also some really good 2/3/4 dancer performances and shower shows.

On the flip side, the continued decline of The Village is palpable. Whilst it's laudable that it's still maintaining a strong identity with its public art program, this cannot mask the fact that the very significant number of empty units is a major blight on the area and it's now a much less attractive place to spend time during the day. Some venues like Saloon, Sky Bar and Cabaret Mado were doing a good trade, others were not. Code (formerly Bar Apollon) had about 20 people in it on Saturday night. Whilst Unity was busy on Saturday, it was markedly quieter than previous years. Priape has also closed the basement area of its store and consolidated two floors into one.

Part of the problem for Code, is being too close to Sky Bar. Here's a google translation of a recent article explaining a court battle between the two bars:
