NYC Woman Electrocuted While Walking Dogs

While taking a walk, the pooches stepped onto a snow-covered, electricity-charged utility box. Snow and salt apparently erroded the internal cables causing a short. The poor woman was fried while trying to help her dogs. See:

According to the article, NYC streets hold many so-called "hot spots".

 

(Note to self. Teach the dog NOT to stop and pee while walking down the street.)

This case is not dissimilar to one that happened in Miami a couple of years ago. In that instance, a young boy was electrocuted during a rainstorm when he touched the side of a bus shelter that carried an electrical current from a nearby light standard that had been improperly grounded. There was a large puddle surrounding the area. The local citizens were appalled to learn that there were hundreds of similar light standards with faulty groundings all over Miami. The company that had done the shoddy work was criminally charged but I don't recall what the outcome of the legal proceedings were. I know I never went near any light standards that were surrounded by puddles after that.
