Or "charges by the hour." But attorneys often wind up discounting their rates or cutting time charged before sending bills out.

 

This isn't applicable to escorting, but I'll mention it anyway: In-house counsel to a client of the law firm I worked for observed that clients can have service that is good and inexpensive, but not fast; good and fast, but not inexpensive; or fast and inexpensive, but not good. They can't have all three at once. Truer words were never said.

At the risk of derailing the subject, the saying about computer disk drives also that you can

have any 2 but not all 3:

 

1.) Fast

2.) Cheap

3.) Reliable

He's right, and it's not just San Francisco.
