I had a brush with scientology many years ago. It was a time in my life when I was very lonely and depressed. I was walking down a street in Copenhagen mulling over my life and how fucked it all seemed and some woman approached me and asked me if I would like to take a personality test. I had heard of personality tests and thought I could take this one to figure out what was wrong with me. She took me to the local scientology office and I took their personality test. And of course, because I was, at the time, a hopeless mess, the test showed that I was a hopeless mess, but it also made me mad because I didn't think I was nearly as hopeless as their test showed. Their answer, of course was to get myself on the road to "clear" by signing up for a bunch of scientology courses - -that it was my only hope. I never wanted to think that my life was as bad as all that, so I ended the interview and left. Every time I hear about scientology, I thank my lucky stars that I left that day.

Maybe this is one of the reasons for them to remain in their cult, they'll defend you...

One of Masterson’s accusers filed a police report in 2004 saying that she was raped in 2003, but the case didn’t move forward after the Church of Scientology intervened and submitted over 50 affidavits from Scientologists who denied the woman’s account. According to a report filed with the Los Angeles Police Department, the woman said Masterson raped her while she was “passed out,” and when she awoke and realized he was raping her, she struggled with him until he choked her and she passed out again.

I live very close to that horrible blue building (which used to be the hospital where I was born). Scares me every time I see it. There are always Scientology followers handing out free personality coupons everywhere especially near the subway stop. They seem to prey on Latinos in particular.
