Schock's no longer under the jurisdiction of the ethics committee, now that he has resigned. However, lawyers at the Justice Department's public integrity section, the Federal Election Commission, or state or federal prosecutors in Illinois still could examine the allegations leveled against him to determine if he violated the law.

Out of curiosity, how likely is this to occur, and would it be worth the cost attempting to bring justice to all of this.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Illinois Rep. Aaron Schock, a rising Republican star already facing an ethics inquiry, has spent taxpayer and campaign funds on flights aboard private planes...

Come on now. Flying commercial is a BITCH!

Wow, Schock's fall from grace was pretty quick... just a couple of months from the initial Downton Abbey disclosure to his resignation. I'm guessing we haven't heard the last of his alleged misdeeds. Wonder how long before he get hired by Fox News?

Funny how quickly this happened, 3 weeks! Leads me to think the other shoe is about to fall (a tasteful gay shoe, no doubt)

To the right of Congressman Schock is his personal photographer, Mr. Jonathan Link:

(If Link is supposed to be the photographer, who's taking the pictures?)

How do you find this stuff? ;)....

Illinois has quite a bit of experience investigating corrupt politicians.

Indeed. State politics in Illinois is bloodsport. Five of the last seven governors went from the state house to the big house.

Here's a picture of Jonathon Link with a beard:

I don't know. Mr. Link doesn't look quite bulky and muscular enough to grab Rep. Shock's attention, ass, or pocketbook. He also obviously did not go to the same fashion expert. But that is just me.

He has resigned and asked for "forgiveness"... according to some reports... Not sure the congressional ethics office can pursue him once he resigns, but the Speaker of the House now has another great example of a "good republican"....

I loved what Barney Frank said: anybody who goes to the gym that much can't be straight.

That's not quite true. Four of the last eight governors have been sentenced to prison, but one was charged with a crime that occurred after and was unrelated to his governorship. Here's the list of governors, in descending order:

  • Pat Quinn - no prison
  • Rod Blagojevich - prison
  • George Ryan - prison
  • Jim Edgar - no prison
  • James Thompson - no prison
  • Dan Walker - prison, not related to public office/occurred several years after leaving office; US Attorney later concluded that his business dealings were unethical but not illegal
  • Richard Ogilvie - no prison
  • Otto Kerner - prison; the original charges were dismissed, two researchers have concluded that his conviction was unfair and would have been overturned had he lived long enough to appeal them

Nonetheless, a high proportion of Illinois's governors have ended up in prison.

Great development for Aaron, now his Republican donors want their money back!

Some of former Rep. Aaron Schock’s donors are suing him, arguing that he misrepresented himself as an honest and ethical politician during his campaign.

The class-action lawsuit seeks refunds for thousands of the Illinois Republican’s donors who were allegedly swindled by a “campaign full of corruption and lies about his integrity,” according to a statement by the plaintiffs’ law firm, Hagens Berman.

Schock was accused of improperly using taxpayer money to take a private jet to a Chicago Bears game, using campaign money for a duty-free shopping spree in Buenos Aires and a number of other colorful scandals. The Justice Department has already launched a criminal investigation.

Thanks for posting this Marylander. I was just about to post the same thing. Apparently he has already learned how to play the game on "The Hill".

he's a fast learner but his lifestyle brought unwanted attention and helped bringing him down.

He didn't stop spending even as he was shown the door. Looks like his dad might have it right after all.

My take on this is that his GOP funders are delusional. They paid on the basis of his declared policies. If he doesn't follow up on those policies that is buyer's risk, not cause for change.

Some one who used to work out with him told me he is very well "equipped"...

Yup, he has a set of big balls! (And what straight man buys $3407 on gift bowls at Tiffany's?)

"Former Rep. Aaron Schock may be out of office, but he still has to explain himself to the Federal Election Commission. And the quarterly report filed for his election committee, shows that big money was flying in and out of the congressman’s account, to the very end.

An examination by NBC5 Investigates shows the former 18th District congressman spent more than $42,000 on travel expenses, most of it on airfare, with one notable $4,000 stay at the swank White Elephant Hotel in Nantucket. The congressman dropped another $3,407 for gift bowls at Tiffany’s, and more than $3,000 at Garrett’s Popcorn. The federal records indicate that his American Express bills topped more than $75,000."
