Is it me, or in any city I look on this site, the majority of advertisers look like they just got out of prison? Heavily tattooed, flashing gang signs, grabbing their crotch. And then there are some that are quite gender specific, "Women Only" / "Sólo para mujeres".

Give me a better site to cruise!

Depends on the city. In NYC, yes. But try Backpage for Montreal, plenty of very hot guys.

It's like that in Los angeles too. I do find some of them attractive but I don't trust the authenticity of the ads or pics.

It's the same in San Francisco. I know that there are some legitimate ads there because one can see the same photos with the same phone numbers on other sites, and those guys have at least one positive review or message thread about them here. The vast majority, however, do seem suspicious.

In my experience, with the exception of one hire, all the other guys I've hired from Backpage were all hustlers or scammers (I'm in NJ). I learned to stay away from Backpage...

It is so bad that when I do research to see if someone I'm thinking of hiring has other ads up, and find a link to a Backpage ad the guy drops down on my list.

I've found some good guys in the past on Backpage ( years ago)-but it seems that the number of ads that I consider sketchy have increased in the last three years.

I have found some great men on backpage. I have also found some not so good ones as well. In short, I find backpage no better or worse than any other place on the internet (including Men4RentNow, Rentboy, Rentmen, and even reviewed escorts here on this website and/or adulated here in the message forum).

Similar in Boston. Not ALL the ads are like that, but a good portion of them are. It's the "thug" image thing. I guess *someone* must go for that style, because the ads just keep getting posted. And of course they all copy one another - the same kinds of poses and style of pics, the same jargon (often with lots of misspelling/typos), the same too-good-to-be-true gargantuan cock size boasts...it's really kind of disgusting if you ask me.

The ads in DC were/are absolutely frightening (never saw so many gangsta thugs with photos in one place) then tried the same while traveling and it was pretty much the same.

Well, don't forget that "male escort" refers to the escort, not necessarily the client. I don't think the backpage site is *meant* to be as gay-oriented as sites like rentboy or rentmen are. If the backpage section actually said "gay male escorts" and there were lots of ads for men who cater to women clients, THAT would be more odd. (I also assume there are sites that more specifically deal with male escorts catering to exclusively female clients - but obviously we don't much deal with those here.)

You should look at the men for men section on Backpage. You'll get ads for men seeking women. It's such a mess.

Not in any way trying to make light of the horrid practice of human trafficking...but I just clicked on the link and got an odd surprise. Being that I work in theatre, I do get theatre-related ads popping up on the screen from time to time. This time, next to the linked article, I got an ad for the upcoming Broadway production of the musical Gigi. Now, Gigi, you may remember from the famous film, is the story of a young French girl who is ostensibly being groomed to be a courtesan.
