I gave up at 5:33.....very embarrassing to watch....because they are actors, I presume they were hamming it up a bit, but I'm sure there are real American visitors close to that.....and many who do behave, too

I don't buy this at all. The actors were made to act obnoxious for interesting viewing.

Rednecks like them usually don't make it to Europe, but if you go to Washington DC's Mall from March to late August you'll find a lot of families just like them all over the place. It must be a stereotype, exaggerated like so many others but unfortunately it's based in reality.

They should have added a Segway for them to avoid doing that thing called "walking".

Always the shorts, cheap white ankle socks and white running shoes made in China, not to mention the baseball cap. The Chinese are pretty obvious too, hovering in their tour groups with cameras clicking away and all the women with umbrellas and big floppy hats and the tour buses purring nearby.

Of course, I realize that much of this is class distinction and, to be frank, snobbery. I fear we all enjoy making fun of Middle America to bolster our own egos, me included. Not everyone can afford patent leather Lanvin sneakers and selvage denim.

David Sedaris has a bit on this, from when he was living in Paris, and overhearing an American tourist couple on the subway, the husband warning his wife that they were "all thieves over here". My favorite line - "They were speaking English, as if it were a secret code".
