Gamma Mu is a gay organization that's been around for 25 years or more. While they do some charitable things and have a foundation, it is basically a travel organization run by a travel agent in Florida. You have to be recommended by another member to get in and they charge an annual membership fee ($100+). They sponsor 'fly-ins' twice a year in different cities around the US. They are usually in major US cities where there are members who can help plan events (Thursday thru Sunday). Mostly the events are group parties involving alot of drinking and a little eating. The membership tends to be older and most events whether day or night, begin with cocktails, so if you're not a drinker, it may not be for you. In past years, there were many group trips overseas, but they have been greatly reduced, so it's mostly these 'fly-ins.' As an aside, in the Maupin "Tales of the City" series of books, the group was referred to as a gay millionaire club, but I don't think that is the case anymore.

i've been invited to join but unable to attend the big get together as it always comes at the same time as a major business meeting i have every year. i do sent them funds for their scholarship fund as it appears worthwhile.

Thanks for all the info, as I've never heard of this group. And here I was being a real dunce head, thinking it was and endearing term for a grandmother cow. :+

LOL, taylorky. After reading the information, that was exactly my thought, that damn I wasn't that far off! But I didn't want to say it as I didn't want to offend my fellow granny cows. :) I owe you one for posting that thought for me! ;)

Gamma Mu came into the national spotlight at the time of the Versace murder in Miami in the mid-nineties, when it emerged that the murderer, Andrew Cunanan, alias Andrew DeSilva, was a member. He had been been sponsored by his wealthy sugar-daddy from La Jolla, California. Andrew used his entree into this somewhat exclusive and secretive, rich-man's gay club, to meet the type of men who would support him in the style to which he aspired. The club is actually over thirty years old and apparently has become more "Democratic" in orientation as anti-gay Republicans have gained ascendancy in their party.

Be that as it may, it obviously is an ideal forum for aspiring "kept-boys". My impression is, however, that Andrew was a somewhat atypical member, and that most members are well-heeled gays who are somewhat closeted and like the opportunity to go to another city to indulge their desire to rub shoulders with "the girls" without attracting the notice of their straight colleagues or neighbours back home. It would hold less interest for gays, such as myself, who are "out" in their communities and to their families.
