Not sure of a long run -- only two more episodes left to this season, and I am not sure how they can stretch it out as the principle ensemble actors play 1st year law students, but it has had me following it weekly since episode 2 - and yes, I agree that my favorite line is that one that Okliehomo mentions.

Not quite sure what they will do in subsequent seasons, either, but with 20 million viewers (including dvrs) I am sure they will find a way to make it last. Maybe they join her firm? Start their own? All join different firms, but hang out together after work at Central Perk?

it is unrealistic that 1st year law students would be doing this type of work, it is more like a rotation an L3 would do, so, they can promote them along and have them continue to work for Annelise. Of course it is called "how to get away with murder" so they do not even need to get rid of the character that killed Sam, my guess it is the mousy blonde or the hot bearded guy who has no obvious motive to this point. in another Shonda Rimes show, Grey's Anatomy, the show has been running so long that the cast members who started out as first year residents are retiring to collect social security,

Yes I am leaning towards the mousy blond or the bearded assistant -- but what is so surprising in this particular show is how the character Annelise seems to "set people up" to fall and so perhaps the obvious characters are not so obvious. I missed the first and I think 2nd episodes and so Annelise's "boyfriend" is on the sides and I cannot figure out his role. I have to say too that the girl around whom the murder trial is turning is an OBNOXIOUS personality and I would be happy if SHE is the culprit. Her street talk and attitude make one cringe, and it was more cringing when she got that strikingly handsome Black law student into bed. Ugh - could love be soooo blind? Anyway, I will be glued to next week and look forward to see how this continues.

If you missed the first two episodes, you need to go back just to see the scene in which the defendents boyfriend law student walks in on Annelise and her boyfriend, the cop, who is going down on her. When he walks out shirtless, well lordy lordy lord Sam never had a chance. And if it is the cop who committed murder, I hope they switch the show to follow his life in jail. Oz revisited.

Thanks purplekow -- I think for posterities' sake I will download the earlier (and apparently ALL steamier) episodes for my computer for later "critical review".

 

I have long been a fan of Viola Davis - an actress I have felt has been denied the amount of stellar roles she COULD play, and this is great for her. The scenes when she is "out of character" [e.g., without make-up and her wig] are very raw and intense and it takes a very strong actress to be filmed that way week after week.

 

I agree that Billy Brown, Annalise's boyfriend, is strikingly handsome (and I have yet to see that epis. 2 with the shirtless scene...) but I also find in a DILF way soon-to-be-killed off Tom Verica as Annalise's husband fascinating, and his selfies were not bad (better than Antony Weiner's anyway).

 

Now while I find Jack Falahee (playing gay law student Connor Walsh) interesting, my interest lies more in the tall and lean Alfred Enoch who plays the poor student, Wes Gibbons, always caught in the webs of deception of Annalise, and who had those shirtless (and pantless) scenes with the accused in the plot. Of course another character that rang (MANY) bells for me was Conrad Ricamora who plays the techie IT specialist that Connor seduces (on multiple occasions) and who has a few of the racier steamy scenes early on. Of the other two male actors in the series, the bearded and swarthy lothario Charlie Weber playing Frank Delfino is not bad either, while the last one, Matt McGorry playing the hyper Jewish law student Asher Millstone [what a name!] well -- prefer he NOT take off any clothes.

Maybe he does, Deej but the personality he acts out... well it is great acting of a character type I would avoid no matter what the body looked like.

I too like the show even though there is no way this seems like a group of first year law students to me. And then too, when do they have time for their other classes? They're always off on assignment for Annelise.

 

I'm hoping for more shots of Annelise's boy friend. I watched that great seen more than once - he is smoking hot, I think.

 

I also think that Asher fills out a shirt pretty well - I'm looking forward to the plot line moving into warmer weather - perhaps the cast needs to visit the Jersey shore to gather clues. And , hey, the ocean is right there; anyone fancy a dip? No suits necessary!

I haven't seen the show. But many first year law students -- especially at the higher-rated schools -- have done other things before attending law school. They don't go there straight from college/undergrad anymore.

 

On the other hand, I can only suspend disbelief so far. From everything I've heard, this show goes way beyond what I can suspend disbelief for. For one thing, first-year law students are discouraged in the strongest terms from doing anything but attend classes and studying. That means no work, not even for professors. And no law school professor who wants to stay on the administration's good side is going to use first-year students as researchers; for one thing, in the law school scheme of things, they don't know anything yet and in fact are constantly reminded that most of what they think they know they either don't know or it was wrong to begin with. They don't call the first year of law school "teaching one to think like a lawyer" for nothing.

 

Shonda Rhimes is a talented writer and showrunner, but her shows tend to be too drama-llama for me. I'd only be watching this one for the eye-candy and the gay sex (and maybe the mystery plot). That's not enough to get me to watch or keep me watching.

 

Also, a character in a legal drama who uses sexuality to get info for work? She's been around for years on The Good Wife. Her name is Kalinda Sharma. She's bi/pansexual and non-monogamous, all of which is shown on the show, though perhaps not as explicitly as on How to Get Away With Murder, she's great at her job as an investigator (and in fact has limits and ethics, although they're not necessarily where most people would draw them), and she used to be the title character's best friend until the title character learned that she had slept with her husband in return for a personal favor.

I agree. Just before the first episode, the University of Pennsylvania student newspaper disclosed that the adminstration turned down requests for some scenes of "How to Get Away with Murder" to be filmed at Penn Law School and on the campus in general. The show's law school is located in Philadelphia, with a fictional name. I have wondered from the beginning how first-year law students can do so much outside work and keep up with all their other courses. I watch "How to Get Away with Murder" only for the eye-candy and gay sex.

 

There have been rumors for a long time that Juliana Margulies (Alicia Florrick), the star of "The Good Wife," and Archie Parjabi (Kalinda Sharma) had a major personal following out. They have not appeared in a a scene together on "The Good Wife" for two seasons. Kalinda Sharma has always been bi/pansexual and non-monogamous, but perhaps a tad more lately to move the plot forward (which otherwise might have happened with scenes between Alicia and Kalinda). Just google Matt. There are a number of shirtless pic's out there showing that, indeed, he has fine pecs and abs under those Millstone shirts! He was in the first season of Orange is the New Black on Netflix and had more opportunities for beefcake shots!

Not something I'm aware of, but although I've watched the show since its debut, I'm not plugged in to the latest about the show (other than casting/plot news) the way I am with some other shows. However, I could have sworn that Alicia and Kalinda have been in a few scenes together since they patched up their falling out over Kalinda sleeping with Peter (but not to the point of being besties again) after Kalinda was instrumental in locating Alicia's daughter when no one knew where she was. Purposefully avoiding each other in scenes on set would require the assistance of the showrunners, who have written Kalinda mostly as an exposition and plot-advancing device since the (deservedly) hostile reception to the storyline about her husband/ex-husband.

 

FWIW, Archie Panjabi is leaving the show at the end of this season; her contract's up and she's decided not to renew it. That could support the theory that she and Margulies have had a falling out, or it could be that she wants to be free to do more varied work (such as in movies) than co-starring in a network show gives her. Nevertheless, even though I don't think they've made the best use of Kalinda in the last few seasons, I'll miss her.

I do not think it was accidental that Kalinda stayed with Lockhart Gardner while the blond investigator went with Florick Argos. Kalinda is also on the storyline with Argos and Bishop while Alicia is on a separate storyline with her candidacy. So while it may be storyline driven, the show biz certainly has its share a bitches and these two might just not get along. I had not noticed that they have not had scenes together, but in thinking about it, it seems since the blond investigator came on, Kalinda is basically working for Cary and sometimes for Diane and I cannot recall even a group shot of Kalinda and Alicia together.
