Personally, I don't see where the humor is. I don't think it's appropriate to make fun of effeminate people.

 

If I had an effeminate son I wouldn't want to "hide" him.

 

I understand this is the Onion, but I find the clip homophobic.

It reminded me of the "not that there's anything wrong with it!" bit from Seinfeld. I hadn't seen the Today Now sketches from The Onion before. If I didn't know better, I would have thought it was a real daytime talk show, until the goofy bits at least. Funny stuff.

Back when The Onion was available only in print and only in a few cities (Madison, WI; Milwaukee, and Chicago being among the very few) it was more difficult to tell that they were being satirical. In fact, a forum member didn't "get" that the following was satire when I posted it here a few years ago:
