Agreements to Enter Adult Oriented Websites

Seems like almost all adult oriented websites including this one and those of individual escorts all start out with some sort of agreement that "I am over 18, not a cop, etc., etc." Does that really work? Seems like it wouldn't be any different than asking someone if they're a cop before proceeding to do whatever illegal activity caused the question in the first place. Police don't have to answer that question honestly so why is it any different when you click on "I Agree" on a website.

Protection is nill, but you'll catch hell from the Pat Robertsons if you don't have the 18+ click-thru, and it's easy to put in place.

 

Beyond that, it means nothing.
