Derek and I saw Cat on a Hot Tin Roof on Broadway last night. It was pretty dull: beautiful Ashley Judd was all neurosis and no sex appeal, and Jason Patric was mostly lethargic. When I wasn't enjoying the performances of Ned Beatty as Big Daddy and whoever played Big Mama, I was admiring the sexy hair pattern on Jason's chest & abs, and his thick hairy legs, and the smooth alabaster skin on his muscly back when he undressed. That was worth the ticket price. }(

Well, I have to agree with you...JASON PATRIC is H O T.

Does he have alot of time on stage with his clothes off? Any completely nude scenes?

If not, from your comments, I assume it's not worth the price of admission? Will be in NYC in a couple of weeks and was thinking of getting a ticket???

He's in boxer shorts in the first scene (that's when you see the sexy back and calves), then changes to what he wears for the rest of the play: pajamas, with only the bottom button of the pajama top buttoned (as in the Playbill photo).

It's still in previews so maybe it will get better, but Derek's and my feeling was that Ashley Judd's Maggie the Cat is not a cat...she just didn't have the fire that Liz Taylor has in the film version. And Jason Patric is really flat throughout as well. It is not an exciting production. :-(

I am a big Fan of Ashley Judd since she is a KY girl and her dad actually lives down the Court from me. Sorry to hear her performance was not up to par.

I was googling around and happened upon the factoid that Jason Patric is Jackie Gleason's grandson.

I saw this play on Broadway a number of years ago and it was very well done.

Kathleen Turner (younger and thin) at the time was excellent, and I do not

remember the name of the actor opposite her. But much of the play he had

only a towel wrapped around his waist. In one instance he sat facing the

audience and the people in the first few rows saw a treat since he was not

wearing anything under the towel. The woman who played Big Mama was

Polly (cannot remember her last name, think it was Holiday). She had been

in the old TV show Mel's Diner. After the afternoon show we went to eat

at a place around the cornet from the theater. Ms Turner came in with

the guy and had dinner. Met her after dinner. She was really nice and

friendly.

RE: Yummy Brick

Suntan, I also saw that production and I too cannot remember who played Brick. He could not have been all that good!

The actor was Daniel Hugh Kelley and the actress who played Big Mama was Polly Holliday , FLO of "Alice" and later her own show, a spinoff, which didn't make it.

That was a really good production of the play....too bad, according to Rick, that this one doesn't appear to be in the same league.

I myself wasn't born yet. But, again, Google steps to the question.

You refer to Polly Holliday, who played Flo, a waitress at the diner. Flo made famous [sic] the phrase, "Kiss my grits." The network later spun off the Holliday vehicle, in a one-season wonder eponymously titled, "Flo."

RE: Which roof is the Cat on?

I am curious (as a cat!) as to the "version" of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof being presented. In Mr. Williams original play, it was obvious that the relationship between Brick and Skipper was sexual, and that this is the reason for Brick's alcoholism. In the movie version, starring Elizbeth and Paul, there was another story, rather baroque, and flimsy at best. Still, it was a rather fine film. Which version is being presented in this Broadway incarnation?

The NY Times review is out this am. They liked it except for Ashley Judd's performance. Thought Ned Beatty was great as Big Daddy/

Yeah, like I said, Big Daddy and Big Mama were the only things, aside from Jason's body, that I enjoyed. :)

RE: Which pillow is the Cat on?

Rick, you wily devil you! Now I realize that Ben Brantley's review was probably based upon pillow talk with you! But how do you explain John Lahr raving about the performances of Big D and Big M as well? Surely you haven't shared a pillow with him? (Incidentally, he totally ignored Patric's performance in his review!)
