I didn't realize until now that they believe Roy had a seizure, and that the tiger actually saved Roy's life...

They're saying that Roy suffered a stroke on stage and the tiger instinctively picked him up by the scruff of his neck to bring him to safety, as a she would have for a cub. Roy also says that by piercing the artery in his neck the tiger relieved blood pressure and saved his life.

Do you believe this story? I would have thought that if it were true it would have come out at the time. I think that as one of the world's most famous animal trainer acts, losing control of a tiger and suffering a crippling injury would be humiliating. To me it's likely that they've come up with this story to remove some of the stain of failure from their careers.

My gut reaction is that this is possibly true. We heard at the time some people state that something happened to Roy before the tiger carried him off stage, but this is the first time I've heard the stroke story. One reason nothing had been said may have been Roy's limited speech and inability to tell the story himself.

Actually, not really. If an area served by a cerebral artery is suffering from poor circulation, the last thing one wants is to decrease circulation from that artery. Before the medical community knew better, it used to be the teaching to lower the blood pressure in people having strokes. Now we know that this results in poorer outcomes.

...but Montecore might not have known that.

if folks told S&R once, they told them a thousand times: No good will ever come from being around that much pussy

Your attempt at humor is quite low class and rude.

Roy's version of what happened that night doesn't make sense, but I can understand why he would come up with such a theory. Siegfried & Roy do not see their tigers as just animals, or even pets. They think of tigers as their family, just as a lot of people who love their dogs as if they were their children. Because it is so unthinkable that a "blood brother" (as Roy refers to the tiger Montecore in the interview) would want to hurt him, S&R came up with this (frankly) kinda nutty theory. I don't see a hunger for the spotlight as driving this theory. S&R have retired here in Las Vegas and seem to be quite content in what has been a fairly quiet retirement. They make the very occasional public appearance, but otherwise seem to be enjoying their old age (they're 75 & 69) with their lions & tigers.
