There was talk of this buried in another thread, it's on for whomever wants to meet up in WeHo this Sunday around 1 for lunch.

I've never been to the French Market, from what I can tell it's at 7985 Santa Monica Blvd, near (east of) Crescent Heights. Still working on how we'll recognize each other, anybody else interested who's been there and has suggestions?

I'll be there. Let me know if you come up with a good plan to recognize each other. Unless the restaurant has a dress code that prohibits it, I'll probably be wearing jeans and a Microsoft t-shirt (that being the reason I'll be in LA that week).

In town for the PDC eh?

French Marketplace is probably the WORST place to try to gather a crowd. They're very busy, very geared toward couples, and unless you have a guaranteed crowd all there at the same time you'll likely not sit together.

If you have a big crowd and all arrive at the same time, they've got exactly ONE seating area to serve you.

Go to Hamburger Mary's instead ... or Numbers. Numbers served brunch last I looked.

French Marketplace is a recipe for frustration.

The French Market has some nice eye candy from time to time. It can get busy but it also has a few cool shops to check out and they have several tables for 6 most though are 2 or 4 seaters. I guess it depends on how many peoiple are attending.

From what I read in the other thread and now here it only appears to be 3 or 4 people, I would suggest you give the French Market a try.

Agree. If you only have a few people, French Market can be OK. (And the food is actually pretty good, too.)

The problem with their "tables for 6" is they seat more than one group at a table. Not a bad deal if you get some of the WeHo pornstars or circuit boys, but if you get some of the old folks who are generally disapproving (of pretty much anything <g>), discussion of rentboys might not be well-received.

The Logical Alternative

The Abbey on Robertson has nice, large tables which can easily seat four to six people comfortably; the eye candy is likely to be better at that end of Santa Monica than a few blocks shy of Fairfax and the food is far better. You are also more likely to get a circuit boy or an adult film actor. If the weather continues as nice it has been, it is also a good excuse for al fresco dining.

If you contact the manager the day beforehand with a guesstimate of a crowd (simply tell them it is a social group that is having a lunch meeting - you need not be more specific that that), they will likely be responsive.

RE: The Logical Alternative

Thanks Franco!

I wanted to mention Abbey earlier but COMPLETELY blanked on the name of the place. They have a great foyer area for a crowd to meet up before seating (something sorely missing at French Market).

Abbey has parking issues (but what place in WeHo doesn't? ever tried to get parking at French Market on a Sunday?)

For a "few guys" either is great. For a crowd, neither is great.

RE: Today, 10-26 LUNCH

James,

Thanks for meeting me for lunch, and thanks for showing me around the dark side of SMB. My first visit to the Spotlight was also a lot of fun, even if it was only 2 p.m. on a Sunday afternoon. We'll have to pick a different restaurant the next time I'm in LA...that French Market hamburger was nothing to write home about. :)
