I didn't know straight people had gaydar. I'm not saying they can't pick up on things. I just thought that was a term 'we ' had for identifying fellow members in 'the fraternity/sorority'.

I was also surprised that a "straight" man would use the term gaydar. But perhaps out of the mouth of an unfettered speaker came more than he intended, in more ways than one, two, three??

I know plenty of straight people with gaydar, some with better gaydar than some of my gay friends (one of which, especially, just had 'cute-boy-dar', not gaydar). A manager at a bar once said her gaydar was so good she could tell if they were a top or a bottom.

I can see how Yankees would think that Southern men are effeminate. Besides being very attractive, Southern men tend to speak with softer voices and a southern drawl (sexy as heck) and Southerners don't have anywhere near as much personal space requirements and tend to be more "feely" than Yankees. God only knows what he would say about Latin men! Unfortunately this doesn't make them more likely to be gay...just a lot nicer to be around. :)

The answer is yes. When I see gay southern guys, my gaydar pings up a storm. But there is no pinging around straight southern guys unless the I hear the Dueling Banjos theme start up in the back of my mind.
