When my power went out at 2pm Thursday (the very beginning of the storm here in the DC area), I thought, "Oh, shit - no internet, no cable, no dvd for at least the next 24 hours." But the power came on about 2 hours later and stayed on (with couple of momentary outages). I was quite lucky, as many friends still don't have power. My backyard was littered with enough branches to keep my trash bin full for the next month and there is a mulberry tree next to my back porch that is now leaning on the porch roof. We're supposed to boil all tap water for the next couple of days, but it definitely coulda been worse.

I, too, am lucky to live in the downtown area of DC where the power lines run undergroud, so I still have electric. But, several people over the past couple of days have had to contact me and cancel our meetings because they either couldn't make it into DC or they don't have power. It is quite a mess here.

But, if Isabel had blown through with 70+ mph winds like they thought it might, it would have been a really big mess. There are already enough trees down all over the city to keep PEPCO (local power company) busy for weeks!

I lost power overnight Thursday night and am still out. I have woods in back of the house so am pleased that I only lost 1 medium size branch onto the deck and of course the yard looks like its been trashed with all the leaves and twigs. A couple of sizable trees are down within the development so things could have been a lot worse.
