So I'm doing my usual check of new guys on rentboy in NYC, and there's 110 new listings. (What the fuck?) It looks like every ad on their sister site, manworks (which is purportedly a massage site) has ported over to rentboy. Turns out you can kind of tell which type of ad is which in that next to the green availability button it either says escort or masseur is actively looking, and I'm not sure that one those particular sites there's really a lot of distinction. But I do think there'll be confusion over the rates or services provided, and perhaps some hustler-style up-charging. I have an email out to them asking what's up.

Did your search settings possibly change to include both rentboys and masseurs? There's a dropdown where you can choose one or the other or both. I just searched without logging in (to include people I've blocked) and selected "rentboy". I get 440 hits, and scrolling through the first 3 pages only saw escorts.

But at the same time, I want to give a shout out to Kevin here because he has taught me ways to filter out both escorts/masseurs I am really not interested in meeting (nor probably ever will be) and so when I do a search, fewer names pop up in major cities such as NY where it would take hours to go through the 20+ pages of ads before.

Hey Kevin, I noticed something similar in Ft. Lauderdale yesterday. It looks like the default search changed from "Rentboys" to "All" with the "All" selection including the masseurs. I changed it backed to just Rentboys and the number of choice was within normal range.

Thanks, that's new and I hadn't caught it. So it looks like one wants to now go to advanced search and specify escort, which wasn't the case before.

You don't have to go to advanced search. On the main page, Under Find Boys...., there's a box titled "Select A Speciality" that box now defaults to All whereas it used to default to Rentboy. This box is directly above "Select A Location". And personally I hate the new "Advanced Search" function; I always click on the option to use the old advanced search method.

then under FIND BOYS ...

 

Thanks. Either that's new or (far more likely) I've been too obtuse to notice it before. What's changed is the default now selects all rather than escorts, and that knocked me off my stride.

I was watching ABC news yesterday - the NYPD is expecting a huge inflow of escorts this week and this weekend because of Superbowl. That includes women escorts of course. I would be vigilant because of possible 'sting' operations the NYPD intends to do in an effort to limit prostitution this weekend, according to the news report.

Doubt there's very much to worry about! NYPD is focused on Drug Ops not really "Vagina or Dick Ops".

 

Seriously doubt the Girls & Boys will be piling off Buses..the Overhead isn't worth it.. ask any Traveling WG'S around here! ;)

I will thankfully be in Fort Lauderdale during the Super Bowl. They're already talking about street closures in Midtown Manhattan, and I'm sure the security in hotels is going to be a nightmare. Will be glad to miss it.

I used to be scared about this, however I'm not now. I protect myself by not discussing anything explicit or $ beforehand. I politely request that they visit my ad and read my reviews.

 

In your case this might be an ok thing to do because of your reviews. But, and I understand the need to be cautious-I don't want to be caught in a sting either- but as a client when an unknown guy is too vague-I usually consider them a scam. Before I hire, I need to be pretty sure that we are compatible- especially nowadays when fees for an hour are usually almost twice what they were when I started hiring in 2002.

very good point.....I certainly understand your discretion, Killian, but there has to be a certain amount of bilateral trust established beforehand to ensure the meet goes as hoped for....there are ways to do this without appearing risky

rentboy is changing some things around however just this year. I used to could move my ad every other day from Ft. Myers (where i actually live) to Naples (where most of the good clients are down here) back and forth with no upcharge to my ad. Now it is 5 dollars every time. Certain small markets like sw fla should be considered ONE area. Unlike the guys at rentmen.com who actually listen to advertisers suggestions the people at rentboy are very NICE but unaccomodating to what seems to be a simple and logical request.
