That's the point: the chances are slim. It is an easy way to be gracious without being intrusive.

 

"Whenever we in town at the same time" is meant as a way of saving face if they did not want to get together again. They travel a fair amount, and they know it will be several months before I'm back in town.

 

I haven't written out the note on stationery yet, so if you think anything in there is awkward or weird, feel free to let me know.

BTW, speaking of the thank you note, you guys (Azdr, BVB, craigville, DiverDan, PK, Gallahad, rvwsnsd) all provided invaluable advice for staying at the home of someone I had never met. Thank you!

I find nothing about that awkward or weird. Like both of us said, saves face and isn't intrusive. Had you said "I've bought plane tickets for the weekend of October 5 and I can't wait to see you" THAT would be awkward and weird.

Wait to be invited in. Take your shoes off at the door. Say "thank you", do something nice for them they like and leave your dwelling space cleaner then when you arrived~
