I saw Priscilla Queen of the Desert the Musical.

I went in with certain expectations having seen the movie. One of the expectations was that it would probably not be good since I loved the movie, AND HOW COULD THEY MAKE A MUSICAL OUT OF IT? I knew nothing about the show or it’s history on Broadway and tours.

Well, was I wrong. This show is so much fun. It is a small human story with real human emotions set in a spectacle of feathers, outrageous costumes and every disco anthem ever recorded. Boy did we have a great time.

There is so much humor that my sides hurt. I was especially impressed with how they worked the songs into the show, some were done as ballads and then slipped into big lavish production numbers, some were just big lavish production numbers. The cast was uniformly great. The energy and sense of fun was consistent throughout the production.

I am going to try and see it one more time before it closes here in Los Angeles (at the Pantages) on June 16th. This company moves to a 2 month run at The Venetian in Las Vegas opening June 18, 2013 through August 18, 2013.

I had the good fortune of seeing it on Broadway with Nick Adams--perhaps the most gorgeous man I've ever seen with my own eyes...
