I don't buy this as a generational issue. I retired just recently after teaching at the university level for forty years and know many, many men in this age bracket. The young men that i know are still trained to be polite, civil, and well-mannered. It's a matter of breeding, education, training, and yes, class. I suspect that their behavior in private with peers might not have always been the same as in the presence of an older professor. Context is important. When I was in college, it wasn't too uncommon to see a friendly flip-off or 'fuck you' when horsing around.
