The WB Finds Their Tarzan

Calvin Klein model Travis Fimmel to star in the series for producer Laura Ziskin.

By Buzz Johnson

After an extensive search of four countries, 22-year-old Australian Calvin Klein model Travis Fimmel has been selected for the title role of Tarzan in the Warner Bros. pilot for producer Laura Ziskin.

Another newcomer, Sarah Wayne Callies, has been cast as Jane in the modern-day version of Edgar Rice Burroughs' tale of Lord Greystoke. The project centers on Tarzan as a young man as he is brought from the jungle to his childhood home, New York, by his uncle, the head of powerful Greystoke Enterprises, and revolves around Tarzan's relationship with Jane, a fiery police detective.

Eric Kripke wrote the script for the pilot. Ziskin and Kripke are executive producing with David Gerber and the pilot's director, David Nutter.

Fimmel is represented by David Seltzer of Management 360 and attorney Jason Sloane. Callies is represented by Harden-Curtis Associates.

If I were Jane, I'd be worried that this Tarzan would never rescue me. He looks as though he might get so distracted preening in his compact mirror that he'd either crash into a tree or fall off the vine. Travis is pretty, all right, but he hardly looks the hero to those of us who grew up on Johnny Weissmuller, Buster Crabbe, and even Lex Barker (who was as gay as a goose, by the way, never mind that he was married to Lana Turner).

The big question is ...can he act?

Tarzan is a VERY important part like Hamlet or one of those guys. Just looking good in your underpants isn't enough. On the other hand, how tiny will his loin cloth be?

Well, I think he is a beautiful young man. I will watch at least the first show, just to see him in his loin cloth! I hope it is one of those short, flap types that blow in the breeze and reveal nice box and butt shots! :) If that's the case, I'll probably watch every week.

He looks a little young to be playing Tarzan, unless it is about Tarzan's early years ala Superman and Smallville.

Hummmm, if that is the case, then I most certainly vote for an episode where Tarzan and Superman team up against some hottie super villain. I can already see it.... there is a muddy area near a river in the jungle and Tarzan and Superman have to wrestle in it, getting all filthy dirty, in order to save some poor, pathetic chick from the clutches of the evil villain. I know I would certainly volunteer for either the role of the evil villain or the damsel in distress!! :p

Nary a loincloth in site. Perhaps he'll wear one in the jungle scenes (if any, this sounds like a "Tarzan in the city" premise, but looks like he ditches it for slacks.

En Fait (Actually)

>Sometimes I think there really is a God . . . . everyone's facorite CK underwear midel,

Actually, my favorite Calvin Klein underwear model was (and remains) Antonio Sabato, Jr., but then again some of us prefer men instead of boys. His photographs still circulate on the web more than anyone elses, by the way, including Mark (a/k/a "Marky Mark") Wahlberg, including the famous Antonio Sabato Shrine that CK put out of business.

Antonio Who?

I never understood the choice of Sabato as an underwear model considering that he has trouble filling out a pair of briefs. The shot of his rear end in the locker room scene in the film "The Big Hit" tells the whole story.

Can Fimmel act? I had to laugh when I saw someone ask that question. If the producers had wanted an actor I expect they would have recruited someone from the Royal Shakespeare Company, not someone who models underwear for a living. Fimmel's job is to provide eye candy, and since he is vastly better looking than any of the men on this site that should be no problem.

So you're saying that in the choice of an underwear model it's really the model's spiritual qualities that should take precedence? Jeez, you really are an idiot, aren't you?
