Governor Hickenlooper said he's going to sign the bill when it gets to him. So if someone lives in Colorado they can go "civil union" someone and I'll bet in the not too distant future do a repeat performance (if they want) and call it "marriage". Hey - that's two rounds of "wedding gifts" so..why not !?!

Every step forward helps! Also, depending on how the Supreme Court rules, civil unions in states that afford them the same rights that married couples get may be automatically upgraded to marriages, since the only substantive difference between the two is the name.

Which is exactly how the court is likely to rule. What's up in the air is how broad their ruling will be.

If they go with a narrow ruling it will likely be viewed as setting the table for a "full faith and credit" case.

Full Faith and Credit shall be given in each State to the public Acts' date=' Records, and judicial Proceedings of every other State.[/quote']

It's just a matter of time before this comes up. It's only missing tonnage. Enough people have to be negatively impacted by states not recognizing their marriages. The court could flip the scales on that in this ruling.

Or, they could wimp out and decide it isn't this issue's time.

As a good friend reminds me: "It will get better. Or it won't."
