RE: Lucille Ball - don't forget that she was a brilliant businesswoman, started and really ran Desilu Studios, purchased the rights to her own shows so she could control and rake in the $ attached, etc.

Rex Reed's comments certainly didn't hurt (and possibly helped) Melissa McCarthy at theaters. "Identity Theft" was the #1 viewed movie this past weekend, hauling in $36.6 million! That's $10 million more than opening weekend for "Bridesmaids." Of course, $$$$ doesn't always equate to quality, but it does significantly raise McCarthy's future earnings as a "HUGE" comedy box-office draw. She's laughing at Mr. Reed...all the way to the bank. Good for her (and us)!

You never go broke underestimating the taste of the American public. People aren't going to see A LATE QUARTET and THE SESSIONS. They prefer schlock.

Well that is a really different statement than she was never referred to as Queen of the Bs. The original point of mentioning that title was to illustrate that Ms. Ball, while not an A list celebrity, did have have a career of note in Hollywood.

"Lucille Ball was not an A list celebrity"

Wow. Totally bizarre statement. She was one of the biggest stars in Hollywood for over 40 years. She was bigger than a handful of stars. At her death, the outpouring was enormous. At her last public appearance -- as a presenter with Bob Hope at the Oscars -- she received a standing ovation. Who, exactly, during her era was a bigger "A list" celebrity?

So what do you like?

The list is enormous. But just a few would include: half the guys I see at my gym, Bradley Cooper, Ryan Gosling, Zac Efron, George Clooney, Matt Bomer, Anderson Cooper, Timothy Olyphant, Stephen Amell, Alex O'Laughlin, Chord Overstreet, Ian Somerholder, Rupert Penry-Jones .... that would be a nice start!

And Jon Hamm doesn't fit in that company? As for Chris O'Dowd- not an extreme hunk like those you mention- but he's definitely an incredibly cute- guy who I wish were my neighbor type of guy.

This seems bizarre-why are you trying to force someone to like the same type as you do? No one is saying Jon Hamm is not hot, he is just not OL's type, as seems quite apparent from his list of hotties. We can't all like the same types. For example, I don'r find Robert Pattinson even remotely sexy, yet millions would disagree. Also, if you like Chris O'Dowd-you can see him naked, inlcuding his dick, in The Crimson petal and the Rose- a british TV drama release last year.

No forcing going on here- just a bit of incredulity about Jon Hamm. Thank you for the information on Mr. O'Dowd.

During the 30's and the 40's, Lucille Ball was not an A-List celebrity. Even though she was in some good movies, she was not at the level of Joan Crawford, Bette Davis or Katherine Hepburn.

She did reach A-List status with I Love Lucy and she did remain on the A-List status until her death.

No, I find Jon Hamm lumpy, dumpy, boring, and very plastic-like. Not into blow-up dolls.

I believe you have selected this one posting out of its context. To review, if you were following the thread instead of picking and choosing and generally being peevish, you would realize that this refers back to someone's statement that she was not a movie star A lister prior to her TV show, which led to my mentioning Queen of the Bs which led to your statement that she was never called that, which led to your being shown to be wrong, which led to your backpedaling, which led to my making this statement in regard to her pre TV movie career.

You are right she was a big star. She was a beacon. She is unmatched Earth Mother of all television comedy. I assume all you read of this is the "You are right" part, as you present yourself here, in my opinion, in a way which suggests that you are just too too above it all. So You are right, Lucille Ball was a big big big big big big star.

Now was she ever called Queen of the Bs?
