A sensitive question that I hope won't offend anyone. This has been raised before I know since I've raised it.

Last week I posted a question about what to do in Miami during the day; over 97 forum visitors have looked, but

alas no response. I look at the questions posted on the "Lounge"; anything from Ed Koch passing away and whether

he was gay, to help and dogs and cats, to TV shows. This is all great. But I remember the time you'd write here

and actually get some friendly advice that I haven't seen much of lately. I mean, no one can offer me some

guidance in visiting Miami during the day on what to see; or the person who asked about Fort Lauderdale

places to stay? Again, I'm just wondering if there is a different location I should post such questions to.

I love dogs and cats but that's not why I look here. Ed Koch was great but not my thing either. So, if there

are other locations to inquire, please let me know and please this is an observation from someone who has enjoyed

the company of you all on line..Rocky

I'd help if I could, but Florida is far outside my knowledge zone. And what little I know applies more to Orlando. You could try putting the post in the Member's Traveling Section.

Other than that I think there may be some gay travel boards if that's the knowledge you are specifically looking for.

Well one of my all time favorite places is Vizcaya - the former John Deering (as in tractor - who was reportedly gay and lived in magnificent splendor with his 20 something male "Secretary") the mogul's Estate and formal gardens, sits right on Biscayne Bay at or near Key Biscayne (yes that is still Miami). The magnificent italian villa was brought over piece by piece and reassembled for Deering. It took an army of labors to fill-in the swamp to site the mansion and run electricity to it in 1916. The villa includes magnificent art work and a room constructed entirely of Amber and legendary formal gardens. Vizcaya has been for many years the site for the legendary "White Party" an AIDS Fundraiser (kind of a side effect - the real focus is party) Then Deering had his dear friend Henry Flagler extend his rail line all the way to Miami so that guest could visit the estate while traveling in comfort.

http://www.vizcayamuseum.org/

Then go around the Corner to The Rusty Pelican just onto Key Biscayne - this Bayside restaurant/bar has sweeping view of the City and Miami Beach as well as the Bay - Coconut Shrimp are amazing.

Or head into Coconut Grove - a bayside hamlet off of Brickell Ave - with great shopping, restaurants, and clubs. Try Monty Trainers at the Bayside Marina is a must - with outdoor seating on the dock - a killer raw bar and the best French Onion Soup in So. Fla.

Like a little more excitement - Check out Jai-Alia in either Miami or Dania (Small town between Hollywood and Ft. Laud) - both offer matinees http://www.casinomiamijaialai.com. Jai-Alai is like racquetball on high octane steroids played by hot spanish men in skin tight white pants using a large bananna shaped cathchers mit strapped to thier arm and a hard wooden ball that travels at close to a 100 miles an hour - and oh btw you bet on the players . . .

Like something a little more relaxing - In Fort Lauderdale - Cruises up the New River depart from the Riverwalk 2-3 times a day and see some of the most fabulous houses from the water - that are and/or were owned by the fabulous, the infamous and the notorious from yesterday and today. Oh and there is a bar on Board.

Want something a little campier?? Try a lunch Cruise on the Jungle Queen - also on the New River - show somes of the houses and sites - But also includes "A Last of the Redd Hot Mama's" as hostess - on your cruise to their private island where you are treated to a bar-be-que style buffet and a Vaudville/Burlesque show and a sing along on the ride home - take a 6 pack of gayboys with you for laugh riot afternoon.

Did I mention you will need a car? Ft. Lauderdale has 3 buses and they are scared of people!

Want to get up close and personal with the bears and other animals visit Lion Country Safari - Florida's only drive-through safari and walk-through amusement park invites you to spend the day on safari with over 900 animals. With animal displays and encounters, animal feeding experiences, 6 rides, water sprayground, food, shopping and more, you are sure to have a memorable experience at Lion Country Safari. Recently redone to make your experience more intimate but Safe (no condoms required).

Like fish? Check out the Miami Seaquarium http://miamiseaquarium.com/ - Enough Said.

Wanna try a different Beach experience --- Check out the Beach in Hollywood, Fla - 1/2 the price of Miami or Ft. Laud - not quite the eye candy - but a real walking boardwalk right on the beach - no steps/traffic or barrieers with lots of palm trees for shade, a water slide, restaurants, stores and shops - and though not offically sanctioned you can buy single cans of beer at the stores for a buck or so and stroll 15 feet back to the beach with your beverage. Park at Johnson street in the garage - then stroll north a couple of blocks to Angelo's for a Slice and Beer - best on the boardwalk.

Don't fill up on pizza - because you will want to cross A1A to the intercoastal side to visit Le Tub Saloon featuring arguably the best burger in America - Indoor/outdoor dining - Now you can eat sitting in one of the many bathtubs - but ws is frowned on at least during daytime activities. And when you leave head up A1A north to Dania Beach Blvd and you will find the Jia-Alia Fronton just before you get to US 1 and your gateway back to Fort Lauderdale.

Take A1A north to Las Olas Blvd, for more fine shopping, dining - big gay cruising and water taxis!

ENJOY!

Why not do your own search by going to http://www.fodors.com or http:// http://www.miami.com, and if it exists http://www.gaymiami.com.

Another site for your interest would be http://tripadvisor.com or http://outtraveller.com or http://passportmagazine.com.

Hope the preceding websites help you in your query.

I agree! Now I want to go to Miami to check all this out.

For a suggestion for another general topic website I used to check out at realjock.com. Although ostensibly it is a gay jock/sports oriented site, being sporty is not a requirement. The Forum there has a travel section, and if you do a word search for Miami within the Travel section you'll find a number of threads going back several years with suggestions. The main complaint I have with Realjock is many of its users have a dim view of escorting, plus the same catfights you get here, but there is good general info and resources there.

As for Miami, I haven't been there in more than ten years. Last time I enjoyed just walking around South Beach and Lincoln Road, but don't know how things may have changed in the last decade.

Last week I posted a question about what to do in Miami during the day; over 97 forum visitors have looked, but

alas no response...

Recognizing that the ratio of responses to views is a sensitive topic, I hope I do not offend you when I answer the only way I know how - directly and thoroughly. I would guess that none of the 97 people who looked at your post had any information and chose not to opine when it was obvious you were looking for facts. That isn't to say that no one has information, it only means the 97 people (now 98, I looked at it just a minute ago and did not respond) could not offer any advice.

...I look at the questions posted on the "Lounge"; anything from Ed Koch passing away and whether

he was gay, to help and dogs and cats, to TV shows...

The header for The Lounge reads "A place to gather and exchange ideas. NO Politics, NO Religion, NO War." Discussions about Ed Koch, dogs and cats, and, alas, Miami are all exchanges of ideas and are not about politics, religion, or war.

...This is all great. But I remember the time you'd write here and actually get some friendly advice that I haven't seen much of lately...

There have been several threads in which advice was dispensed. Most recently, several members provided advice about an incident at a poster's favorite restaurant, 28 posters replied to someone's inquiry about how to choose an escort, and a handful chimed in regarding problems using Rentboy.

... Again, I'm just wondering if there is a different location I should post such questions to...

Someone mentioned posting to a gay travel blog. Such a venue would probably produce better results than The Lounge. Also, the "Traveling Members" section of the forum might also yield more results.

...I love dogs and cats but that's not why I look here. Ed Koch was great but not my thing either...

Fair enough, but others do come here for those kinds of topics. Personally, Florida is not my favorite travel destination. Nonetheless, I am not complaining that there were two (two) threads about travel to Florida in one week and no (no) threads about cities that have subways, world-renowned art museums, and hot sweaty muscular jocks, all of which interest me.

So, here's some friendly advice. Don't sweat it when no one replies to your post. I've posted and received no responses. Clearly, the other forum members were either stunned by my brilliance and recognized nothing they would say could ever measure up or are a collection of mean-spirited assholes whose opinions don't matter, anyway. Of course, neither is the case. Some posts get lots of responses and others don't.

PS: No hard feelings if you don't reply. ;)

Wait a second, I've been to Miami in the summer before, RVWNSD, if you couldn't find any acceptable hot sweaty jocks there, you might have not been looking in the right places.

I'm from Miami and just got back from SF for the first time. Has SF changed alot in 10 years? I'd imagine LOL.

Miami changes faster than any city I've ever lived in. 2 years is generally a big lapse in time. I remember visiting when I was 17 and South Beach hotels other than Royal Palm and Loews and all those expensive sky rises along Ocean were awful. Now, places that had busted out windows and cockroaches have become 'luxury resorts'. Alot of stuff has been renovated...Maybe from hosting the Super Bowl in 2007.

To be fair, your original question (see below) was specifically regarding gay clubs/bars to visit during the day and the lag in responses could reflect the dearth of relevant options.

Question; anyone know of gay clubs/bars that are nice to visit during the day. I'll have some time to spend mid to later afternoon and would like to have some fun. I know afternoon's aren't necessary the active gay times but thought there might be some fun. Many thanks.

I notice that you didn't offer that person any friendly advice on where to stay in Fort Lauderdale. You've made numerous trips there. Heck, you've even had that same question answered for you on several ocassions. Couldn't you have shared some of that advice?

I want to thank everyone for their informative response particularly to a question that might appear unfriendly

to the forum. I received some good information and there were some answers to my question posted to my

initial question. I also take seriously the comment that I referenced someone asking for Fort Lauderdale

lodging yet I had failed to give recommendations. Great point. Thanks again. I'm just looking for fun and

great people to talk with. Rocky
