RockHard.... what a class act you are.

Well, thank you for the compliment, although I doubt you might put it that way if you saw me in a private, heated moment of sucking cock and rimming my favorite escort's ass. I've always believed there's a time and a place for all kinds of behavior.

Rockhard I am a bit confused.

The way it was explained to me: Someone ran my credit card number first, and then the manager informed our head waiter to comp the table. And it took awhile for the credit to appear online. I don't need to present an actual card to pay because my number is in their system, since I have my own table. And no one told me that my credit card number had been entered for payment. (I don't exactly know when the credit was initiated. I suspect it happened later in the day, and that raised a red flag, hence, the apology for the snafu.)

Unbeknownst to me, the manager made the decision to comp the table, and I'm confident she made that decision based on my relationship with her restaurant. I also suspect she was looking out for my celebrity friend. That was a thoughtful and generous gesture. However, since the event was not mine, I didn't think it was fair for the restaurant to lose the cost of our lunch and for the publisher to benefit from my business relationship with the restaurant. That is why I recommended the editor ignore the kind gesture and pay the bill.

I agree, your relationship with the restaurant should not lead to them pick up a check they would not usually pick up. It was a generous choice for them. The small restaurant next door to my office has been picking up my lunch tab for years and I have offered them free services as well. At times, people, usually salesmen, have seen me in there and offered to buy my lunch. when I accept, I do so for the same reason.
