this site was once a useful, fun place to visit.. Where open discussion was the norm and where people could engage in a (mostly) friendly discussion of all matters related to rentboys, strippers, and the like. Now it seems to be nothing more that a dirty litterbox of catfights, accusations, and namecalling. Some people are now being banned and put on "time outs" for speaking their minds while others are able to do whatever they want. I think it just might be time to pack up what remains of my marbles over here and move on, while I am able to do it on my own terms..

Maybe I am blind or I read the wrong posts but I always seem to miss the action. I do find this site hard work at times too where you ask questions and no one replies unless you're one of the worshipped world famous babes on here but generally this site is good and the world would be a worse place without it. Yes this site pisses me off sometimes but I was working as an escort for 12 years before I found it and I make my own decisions and have my own friends without the need for approval from here. Don't let it cut you up. It's not worth it. It's cyber life

Honestly, LurkerSpeaks, what on earth have you been smoking?

For a brief minute (which is how long escortspeak lasted) I checked out that site for the pure astonishment of it all. Escortspeak was nothing more than a cancerous cesspool of psychotic, self-hating gay men. Not only did they hate themselves, they hated escorts, and they hated that they couldn't find sex without paying for it.

The worst trolls from this site started that one, and they went on to attract their very own kind. Well, guess what? They ate each others carcasses to the bone, and you can see what's left of them.

How on earth you come to compare this site to that one is a mystery to me. Here's hoping you feel better soon.

RK,

I'm unfamiliar with the (site?) you're referring to. What is/was "escortspeak"?

You didn't miss a thing. Maybe 2005. I'm not an authority on the subject. Here's a summary of what I know:

1. Trolls snort too much steroid. Meltdown occurs.

2. Bannings throw several members into a "free-speech" psychotic rage.

3. Some assholes think they can fight back and enact revenge by starting their own escort review site.

4. Instead of putting up the money and learning how to decipher code, the big-mouth/small-wallet wannabes put their free-speech bitch-fest on ezboard (now Yuku), which is basically a free, ugly hosting site as long as you allow ads.

5. The ugly members get even uglier.

6. Escortspeak users cannibalize one another.

7. Someone reported the board to the board at ezboard.

8. Ezboard shut the place down.

9. Someone tried to take up a collection to save the cancer-ridden enterprise.

10. The end.

(7-10 are vague recollections.)

11. Some came back here with new usernames.

12. Others ran to MER the second its doors opened. They saw Oz as the anti-Daddy, and believed everything he had to say about Hooboy. Some still do.

13. Many end up on those "whatever happened to" lists. Some readers miss having cancer.

So, folks, it seems our little board is going through a catharsis of sorts. That can be healthy...and it happens to all things at some point -- usually several times. We've seen it before. So, if there are those among us who desire other pastures for their comments, we bid them fare-thee-well. They can announce their intent if they desire the rest of us to mourn their leaving and plead with them to stay for the sake of the old times, or just leave and we will wave to them as they drive off into the sunset. Guess my point is, things are what they are, and will be what they will be. I will continue to be here, because this place has attributes that I find helpful to me. That's my vote....

It's not unusual for popular Internet sites to lead to copy-cat sites like the ones you mentioned. I occasionally enjoy the photos posted by members on MER--old name, the site now has a more 'interesting' name--but it has far, far fewer daily escort reviews than Daddy's. Some current and former members here post on the MER forums, but escort reviewers are extremely faithful to this site. To be completely honest, I have posted on MER a few times myself. But, I feel more comfortable here & always will.

God love the stupid idiots who run a business...

MER--old name, the site now has a more 'interesting' name

While trying to wade through the Lucky kerfuffle, I discovered that idiot Oz changed MER's name to BoyToy. LOL. You can always tell an idiot businessman: change the name of your business six years after launching the business. Can you get any more stupid? I don't think so.

I guess it was fitting that I received an "ATTACK PAGE" warning the first time I clicked on their link.

Maybe if your business is all things Madonna, the name might work. But given the 60+ age range of the typical escort customer, the name "boytoy" reeks of pedophilia, and I wouldn't want my IP or email address associated with that scent.

I've always said, you can't trust Oz as far as you can throw him. The name change is proof.

Interesting. Discipline and regulation brings a long-lived site with some travelers being banned to post under some more onerous handles while still able to enjoy and possibly login to the site to follow along. Yet, the wild-wild-blog is more desirable? I don't get it.

It's pretty clear that there are differing opinions among members as to what degree of 'moderation' (why does that term seem ironic?) is necessary or desirable. Sometimes I have agreed with time-outs and the locking of threads, others times I have not. And sometimes i might have taken action where none was taken. Bottom line: it's Daddy's playground.

What's damaging, I think, is when it's not clear WHY actions are taken (or not taken), or when things get personal. And when posts that cause actions are deleted after the fact, then the reasons for punishment are unknown.

It's hard to play by the rules when you're not sure exactly what the rules are.

I understand my name is mentioned in discussions of the Lucky kerfuffle. That's fine. I had a long-time job, which required newspaper interviews. I learned quickly that there's always a mistake or three, usually out of a lack of knowledge more than evil motives. I could respond by doing live (not recorded) radio interviews back then.

In this case, it doesn't make any difference, because I do not intend to read the MER forums anytime in the near future. But, again I do recommend the photos over there.

I hadn't noticed that.

Oz encouraged Lucky (gee, I wonder why?) to offer his side of the saga. To save Lucky from having to write a lengthy email to me, I chose to click on the link and read what Lucky wrote. And then the ATTACK SITE WARNINGs ensued. Eventually, I was able to read the saga and order strong coffee so I could stay awake through it all. Oh that jet lag.

Interesting and correct observation but what can you do about it but look, listen and perhaps inquire? Do you (or anyone) understand the IRS code? Obamacare? Medicare? Things we have to live with and do the best we can.

Best regards,

KMEM

Thanks, RH. Now I will not even be tempted to read the saga. Let me also make it clear that I like Lucky, and wish he was still posting here.

Sometimes you get what you pay for?

Do you understand the IRS code?

I pay an accountant to figure that shit out.

Obamacare?

I pay an insurance company to figure that shit out.

Medicare?

I'm not eligible, yet.

Somehow I doubt even if I had thrown money at this site, its arbitrary execution of the TOS would be better explained.

Admin note: wrong forum for politics.

Dear Moderator - why not delete the whole post instead of substituting your red ink for my post? Now no one knows I was commenting on the KMEM and rockhard post above just that it was determined to be politics - which the post I was commenting on lead me to respond politically as well as jokingly.

Ripples

Lucky was a member of longstanding.

Love him or hate him, ( and most did one or the other...sometimes both) he was never dull. I would sometimes read his posts and wish he had been more careful in his choices, but I still enjoyed many real world encounters with he and his family. Wouldn't say I always agreed with him but you always knew where he stood. Lucky was very supportive of me in my three year battle with cancer and I have told him I will always be grateful.

He got in enough "kerfuffles " if I can borrow that word, so I don't think anyone is surprised at the outcome given what we know of history. He had been timed out before, left of his own volition before. Love him or hate him , he is a man of passionate opinions and as long as he has a place to post those opinions and interact with other guys, he will be OK.

WE seem to be experiencing ripples from his boulder being thrown from the pond here. We now have, what? two or three threads that all relate back to the "kerfuffle" ? And if what is written in them is any indication the other site formerly MER is having the same reaction, thread after thread about this cataclysmic event of THE banning. I am afraid that it will take a few more days for all the drama to die down and let things go back to topics that don't disparage or put down other sites or posters. And even then, the calm will only be temporary.

I remember the escortspeak era that Rockhard speaks of very well and his chronology and analysis are fairly accurate. The era of "mean girls" and "our site is better than their site" Epigonos, you are younger than I (you handsome devil),as a talented instructor of teenage children, tell me do I mis-remember or isn't this just like high school? I would hate to go back to that era.

I think it's time for me to start passing over all of these threads of the great "kerfuffle" otherwise I am seriously afraid I might be killing brain cells that will never grow back.

Personally, I find the lime green, size 4, Century Gothic really annoying. Jack, is all that graphic drama really necessary?

Lucky was a member of longstanding.

It seems to me, Lucky was much more than that. From my perspective, no member cared more about the success of Daddy and his board. From my earliest days, Lucky wrote me privately to welcome me, and occasionally he offered generous bits of navigation advice. None of the moderators were ever so kind. Through a sea of nasty trolls, Lucky offered username comfort: being Lucky is one positive, inviting way to experience life.

Throughout my occasional, year-long time-outs, Lucky worked diligently to get me reinstated, even though I told him I was perfectly enjoying my exile. I grew to think of him as the board's ombudsman, daddy's diplomat. Lucky had a way of guiding you to consider the other side of things. I saw that as a gift.

Lucky had a lengthy legal career, and I found him extremely generous with his knowledge. Ask him any question, and he was happy to provide an answer.

Lucky and I shared a slice of humor, which made some of the creative writing fun here.

Lucky deserves credit for starting the Comedy & Tragedy Forum, one of the best places on the internet to read gay customer reviews. From my experience, it's not easy getting a new forum started and/or fully supported.

Any board who gets a member like Lucky will be lucky. A man without an opinion on anything is a man who will quickly bore the daylights out of me. Everyone comes to the table with a bite ready to chew, but everyone knew Lucky's bite was harmless.

Love him or hate him, (and most did one or the other

I simply liked him. I don't live life in the extreme. I found engaging with Lucky to be fun and educational. Even on the worst of his "smart ass" days, Lucky was far more enjoyable than any troll that ventured here with the intent to do damage to the board.

he was never dull.

Of course he was. We all have are less-than-shining moments.

Wouldn't say I always agreed with him

Why do people use this silly phrase? I have so many moments in life when I can't even agree with myself.

He got in enough "kerfuffles "…so I don't think anyone is surprised at the outcome given what we know of history.

I am surprised by the EXTREME outcome. Lucky is NOT the enemy here, and he never was. This recent judgement seems unduly harsh, unnecessary, maybe personal. Trolls with obvious destruction agendas seem to garner more respect here at times. I believe this episode warrants some soul-searching, if souls exist here.

he is a man of passionate opinions and as long as he has a place to post those opinions and interact with other guys, he will be OK.

I am confident he will be OK even without an escort forum.

thread after thread about this cataclysmic event of THE banning

Just a bit histrionic, Jack? I don't know, but I think four or six threads out of 17,788 might be infinitesimal.

I am afraid that it will take a few more days for all the drama to die down

I'm sorry, Jack, but this isn't Hurricane Sandy we're talking about here. A permanent banning on a board this small is like a death, and people mourn death in their own way, at their own speed. I'm finding this rant of yours disrespectful and cheeky, spoiling your mention of healthy "gratitude."

I think it's time for me to start passing over all (four) of these threads of the great "kerfuffle" otherwise I am seriously afraid I might be killing brain cells that will never grow back.

Good advice. I wish you had taken it before you wrote your last post.

.... and speaking of Lucky

I've known Lucky for over 10 years. We met up yesterday in NYC and were joined by 2 other board members. We did lunch at his favorite restaurant, took in a wonderful play, and went for drinks at the OUT Hotel. Lucky is doing just fine. He has a full schedule of Broadway shows to see and is enjoying these mild temperatures. Our conversation did not deal with message board issues, Lucky has moved on from that and holds no hard feelings. I agree with all who recognized his outstanding contributions to this site. I know he will be pleased with the support he has received.
