Any audiophiles in the group here? i need wireless speakers to cover 4 different areas in my office. I have done some research on line but I have little or no previous knowledge about speakers in general and wireless speakers in particular. The building i am in is a renovated brick building built in the late 19th century. There are no drop ceilings and the cost of wiring is prohibitive. I need moderate quality speakers so that I may use music to prevent conversations from echoing around the office. i intend to use either XM radio or FM radio as the music source.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with wireless speakers and can help me decide on which speakers to purchase.

i have looked at Bose, which seem nice but I need four speakers all playing from the same source and they do not seem to have such a product.

Audio Unlimited SPK Vel 003 Premium Indoor Outdoor would serve the purpose, but I am afraid that the quality may not be sufficent.

If anyone here has experience with this type of speaker and have an opinion on a solution, i would welcome advice.

I know this thread will likely die a quick death but thanks for any input.

I was faced with the same situation. Wireless speakers were awful....feedback, not working, etc. Trust me. I actually went to Best Buy, bought 4 Bose speakers, 1 receiver and an Ipod deck. We stream Pandora ($4 per month commercial free) and the wires are hardly noticeable along the ceiling above the brick. The Geek Squad installed everything, and it works great. The only real wires that are run are speaker wires, and they are very sleek. You can also have the wires hidden behind a track (color of choice) if it bothers you that much; it really is unnoticeable, especially if the ceilings are high. The whole package was about $2500 if I remember correctly. The Ipod with Pandora is great, and works wireless as well.

It can be done using airplay speakers and a laptop compute. OR I run a mixed system in my home all running off of the music source on my Mac. With a inexpensive program called AirFoil I can output my Mac music to multiple sources, control it from my iphone or ipad. So, using my ipad or phone, I can select the play list or Pandora and tell it where to send the music. In the downstairs living room I have my main home theater system which runs as a multi channel stereo system, in the bedroom, I have a Bose sound dock with an old ipod mounted to it and running as free airfoil speaker app that turns the ipod into an Airfoil receiver, and in my computer loft, I have speakers connected directly to the computer.

As I said, all are controlable through a remote program which runs on my iphone or ipad. The available technology is amazing.

Try Jambox. The larger one. I use it even outdoors for a party of 50 people and it played well. It is about $200 to $300 depending on sales etc. Blu

I've been using Brookstone wireless speakers for the past few years & I'm VERY happy with them. They're kind of "space age" in design, but the sound is stellar & I have speakers in every room of the house, going through the transmitter that they come with.

Everything is hooked up through my home theater receiver, so TV, movies & music can all be enjoyed!

I've heard good things about Sonos PLAY systems, although they seem a bit pricey. I'd still probably go with them for an office setup like you describe. I've tried them in stores. (Target carries them.) They seem to sound great.

The problem with most inexpensive speaker systems is that they start sounding cheap and tinny at lower volumes (like when used for background music). Background music is a good thing. Annoying background music, not so much.

Thanks for all the input. I must say i was expecting one or two responses so this was great. I will look into some of your suggestions. Any other ideas are welcome.

As a lifelong audiophile, the term "moderate quality" does not compute.

I hope you found the audiophile advice you were looking for on an escort review board.

I did get the information I needed. i am well aware that our membership knows about more than just cocks and asses and they provided just enough information to assist me.

By moderate quality, I wanted speakers for my office that would function well enough to deliver music reliably and comfortably to the clients without breaking the bank. Speakers which would do a good enough job that the ear of the non audiophile would not be offended and the bank account of the purchaser would not suffer undue strain. Thanks for the help guys.

just enough information…moderate quality…would function well enough…a good enough job…

Clearly, you missed the unintended joke presented in your silly query. An audiophile is a person with extremely high standards, a listener who seeks purity in high fidelity sound production. Your query never mentioned the words analog or digital.

This was obvious to me by the question you posed. I'm delighted you found the information (you think) you needed.

I second the endorsement for running wires high up on the wall.

Purplecow didn't say what his budget was; and I'm really fussy about speakers.

If the cost is a concern, I'd say it would be worth bribing a knowledgeable friend with offers of a nice dinner

or theatre tickets, and going hunting for used equipment.

Some moderately nice stuff that isn't horrendously expensive, although certainly more than Bose speakers

might be dynaudio speakers (which actually are of danish construction and electronics), or midsize genelec

powered studio monitors.

If price were *no* object , Meyers Sound labs are top quality and used by theatrical companies like ACT in San Francisco

And then there's Bang & Olufsen itself, with the BeoPlay A9 at a mere $2700.

It stands about three feet high, and has a 160 watt amplifier for the woofer and eighty watts each into two midrange and two treble speakers. Try talking over that thing!
