It was a great show; I highly recommend it. Unfortunately it was cancelled and had to be wrapped up in a rush, but otherwise it was excellent. I recommend watching it in sequence as the growth of the relationship between Pollo and Vorenius is key.

Would you buy it?

Why buy when you can rent or stream? I suspect you'll watch it (and thoroughly enjoy it) once. Breaking Bad I would buy, as you'll want to watch it several times.

Excellent series! As for whether to buy...depends on your viewing habits and whether you subscribe to a streaming or rental service. (I'm not sure if its available via streaming or not, although I know yo can rent the DVDs.)

I asked for Season 1 for Christmas a few years ago and I think I'm about to buy Season 2 - these series are usually pretty expensive but are on sale now. (But I'm a collector at heart & like to have physical copies).

I bought both seasons on DVD. I don't watch broadcasts and I don't to streaming, just like the DVD with all the packaging and the extra features. I thought both seasons were terrific, but I actually liked the second season better. The actor who played Octavian (to become Augustus) in the second season was very hot - and Purefoy as Anthony dallying with Cleopatra was hot as well.

Damn I got all excited thinking they were tooling the show up for another run. They could've taken it at least 5 seasons IMO. Oh well. There's always Spartacus which i now like very much.:)

I had to give up on Spartacus which I thought was several levels below Rome artistically, apart from the obvious beefcake. John Hannahs broadGlasgow accent as a Roman was also hard to take, as indeed is his acting in anything......

I initially agree with you but they've gotten allot better since the first seasons. It's gotten more plot/story driven now instead of the mindless hacking bodies up thing.

Rome was more of a political intrigue kind of story where Spartacus is action orientated and yes...lots of beefcake.

Is the whole thing as racy as the snippets they'd show on Fleshbot?

T

Yes. Hard to find an hour where somebody wasn't boinking somebody, not only for fun but often the liasons were political as well.

You'll probably find the DVD's at your local library too. Just tell 'em it's for educational purposes.

Oh, that could be fun. My soon-to-be-ex IS a librarian!! I can just see it now...

"Hi babe...could you hook me up with some naked Romans?" ;)

When I saw the headline here, I thought,"YES! They're bringing it back!" It was a fantastic series with good looking guys (I really liked the leads;-)) and good acting. While I would agree that Spartacus is not on the same level, it is also worth the time - and not just because the guys are exquisite. That story line has really picked up too. At first it was too violent for me, but it did become character driven and hence worth watching. I don't think I would buy either series to own - just not into collecting any more - once I gave up stamp, coin, and rock collecting, just didn't get back into that mindset.

This is one of the best HBO original series ever! As another poster mentioned, the costs associated with production caused the series to end. You will be hooked! Enjoy!

OK!....I'm convinced already!.....have dutifully added it to my netflix queue....thanks

Hopefully Dexter, Homeland, Nurse Jackie, Shameless, The Tudors, The Borgias, The Big C are on the list as well. All very good.

I'd recommend trying Breaking Bad (mentioned by Kevin), Deadwood, Justified and Sons of Anarchy too.

Sounds like I have to add STARZ, HBO, and SHOWTIME to my cable servie.

Or, if you want to watch the series from the beginning, Netflix or HuluPlus would be much cheaper.

thanks, citylaw, for the suggestions....I tried "The Big C" for a couple or three episodes, as suggested a while ago, but it didn't bite me....also suggested a while ago was "Weeds", which did bite me and I'm now waiting for the final season to come up on netflix (in February) after smoking thru all the prior seasons....
