OK, title says it all. I usually have a early spring cruise with an escort that I see but looks like I've been shuffled off the travel list for spring. I've only traveled with two others before and at my age, 58, bear, not easy. Soo, asking my M4M colleagues; do you know of any good travel arrangements for older gay men who enjoy the company of younger men and like the hustle of it. It could be a cruise, although I didn't find much from Atlantis or RSVP which I would like, but are there other travel agents that set up gay adventures. I just like to be myself and hot worry. I'm discreet and very in where I am but like to have fun when I leave the area. Been to Lauderdale, Key West, Provincetown (cold in winter) but looking for any suggestions. Thanks guys. Rocky

Consider branching out to destinations abroad. There's always Brazil! The dollar has strengthened quite a bit there in the past few months (it's now BRL2.07 = USD1.00). That's a better rate of exchange than we've seen in some time. That means fun with the hot guys there is now much more reasonable. If you avoid the peak periods like New Year's and Carnival you should be able to find accommodations without too much trouble, although hotel prices have gone up a lot with the looming World Cup and Olympics. Check out the French-owned Ibis hotels -- they're basic but are usually well-priced. Rio and São Paulo are the most expensive, but they're also where the biggest fun is, if you get my drift. However, there are good times to be had elsewhere in Brazil for less money, particularly in the Northeast. Also give a thought to Buenos Aires. Again, the exchange rate is favorable, although local inflation means prices have kept pace. So it's not as inexpensive as it has been at times in the past. But B.A. is a thrilling city and you're bound to have a good time there. In Europe you might want to consider Spain or Portugal -- no rioting, so far, like in Greece. The massive unemployment means there are undoubtedly more guys available, and you should be able to find some reasonable hotels, since internal tourism is down because of the economic crisis. Just sayin'. . .

As far as cruising goes, I have been on Cunard a couple of times for a trans-Atlantic crossing (both ways with a lay-over of five to ten days in the U.K.). I've hosted (covered all expenses--with up-front agreements of what the expenses will be) for a friend (once) and an escort (once) and had a gay old time--the crew was fantastic and very, very "understanding" and the other passengers either "understood" or did not care. Had a great time and would do it again (probably 2014). Obviously, if one is going to spend that amount of money and that amount of time, you must know your travel-mate well and have boundaries set before departure.

Another alternative is middle and eastern Europe (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, etc.). Great food and beverage, not nearly as expensive as western Europe, and hot, hot, hot men and boys for rent or otherwise. English is almost universal in these countries and I have always had a great time.

Rocky, If I had your “problem” as to where to go in the spring and how to engage an escort, I would have no “problem.” I would engage Alexio from Rome to travel in Italy (warmer to the south, cooler to the north). Of course, I love Italy, but Alexio speaks good English and perfect Italian. He is used to taking care of older men, and will plan as much (or as little) for you as you might wish. He told me of a regular client who is older, heavier, and blind, and that they have a blast together. Consider having Alexio arrange for a trip to Malta or Sicily. Or just have a great time in Rome.

You could add Poland, Croatia and perhaps Bosnia to that list. To be fair to Rocky, he may have already traveled extensively outside the United States. He might want to stay in the U.S. this year. It's difficult to know from his post. But, Eastern Europe is a great choice, especially in terms of money and interesting places to explore.

Rocky if I am reading this correctly, I am getting the impression that you would still like a travel companion. I would not necessarily embark on a cruise without some prearrangement. I could be wrong, but taking a chance on meeting someone on a cruise is a bit of a risk I would think. Perhaps some of the members here could recommend an escort that would be happy to accompany a gentleman on vacation..

Hi, everyone has been so great with their responses. Am I looking for someone to travel with me, no not necessarily since I've been use to one or two who I travel well with. I was looking more of a nice gay travel, maybe cruise, or location, where someone single who enjoys the hustle and bustle (and I repeat hustle) of being around gay guys who enjoy being nice to an older gentlemen. My fantasy; well an Atlantis Cruise where not everyone looks like they walked out of a GQ magazine but there are nice attendees on the ship and nice eye candy who don't mind an older pudgy guy. Is there such a place or am I fooling myself? It's just like going to Boardwalk in Lauderdale; I enjoy the company, enjoy spending money and having fun. But I'm looking for a nice vacation. Maybe I'm a confused guy...

I don't think you're confused at all, Rocky. I share a lot of your desires. As far as a vacation spot, I was in Key West a couple of weeks ago and found the "scene" to be very accepting and friendly. I met many nice guys, both hot and not so much. I had a great time. While not on anyone's "vacation" radar, Providence RI is another very cool place. It's full of really nice guys who like to converse and have fun with no attitude. A very accepting place too. Good Luck!

lots of escorts out there who would fit the bill

never done gay cruises, not my style, but the right cruise might please you. just pay attention to the itinerary. i'm told that most of the gay us-based cruises are floating circuit parties and that the international ones are more upscale, refined and interesting

+1. I also understand that gay cruises can be very clique-ish. Groups of younger gay people likely book them and stick together. We have seen several comments that being a solo 50/60-something passenger on a gay cruise can turn out to be quite a lonely experience. Probably not the best option for meeting people.

I personally wouldn't be caught dead on a gay cruise unless I was going to travel with 3-4 people I knew very well and we intended to hang out together.......even then, a gay cruise probably wouldn't work for me. I would rather do a Cunard transatlantic and hope to pick-up one of the ships mechanics or butlers or something....or take a companion along with me. More my style.

Have fun whatever you choose. Barcelona can be great fun BTW. Great city for tourism and a vibrant gay scene that can be friendly to people in all age groups. If you know some Spanish that might be an option for you.......and there's the sauna there where you can have your pick of great looking guys. They don't care how you look or what you weigh as long as you have cash in your fist.

I second Barcelona and I was wowed by the delights of Thermas. Even after I chose a guy, I nearly got whiplash looking at the others. It was the most fun "baths" I have ever visited.

High end gay travel tours are offered by: Venture Out, Coda and H.E. Travel. Small groups, singles welcomed.

Irtwo - the main gay cruise companies all offer trips to places other than the Carribbean. Check out Atlantis, RSVP and Pied Piper sites on the net for current offerings.

I went to SE Asia (Hong Kong, Vietnam, Thailand and Singapore) on Atlantis, for example.

Maybe I just do not understand the purpose of cruises, but Thailand and Hong Kong are worth at least a week or two each.

Why not just buy a plane ticket and really get to know those places.

One of the advantages of cruise is that you get a taste on many ports and learn about places you might like to return to for a longer stay. (In my case - Buenos Aires, Stockholm, etc.)

Also, cruises start and end in different ports so I did spend 5 days in Hong Kong and 3 days in Singapore. Didn't care for Thailand at all. (Of course, to your point, maybe if I spent more time there I would.)

Sounds like we would agree, more than disagree. I love Stockholm, and have had two different plane tickets to Buenos Aires and had to cancel both times. I appreciate your response.

that is my opinion too

cruises are pre fabricated experiences, not giving you enough time in any one port to really see the location. You only see what the cruise company or port tour operators want you to see. it's too structured for my taste. as william said, i want to KNOW the places I travel to

Most people go on cruises for the cruise itself, the ports of call are just like an added bonus. Some people don't even go off the ship when it docks.

I believe this may have been brought up, but, if you plan to vacation in a domestic city, you MUST visit Palm Springs. It is not only GAY friendly (majority of population are gay plus all estabishments are gay owned or extremely gay friendly), it is also AGE friendly, and APPEARANCE friendly. Plus there is a lot to do in whatever you choose. GO FOR IT!!!!
