At the now infamous bar/restaurant "The Numbers" no 'pickup' lines were needed. The boys didn't bother you except to say hi. They all new the regulars. Once a greeting was exchanged it was simply a matter of me asking them if they wanted a drink. If I was already sitting and having dinner, when they walked by, and I was interested, a nod was all that was needed. I would simply ask if they wanted to sit. Dinner and drinks usually followed along with a nice casual interview as to what they would or would not do, along with the delicate topic of price. Rarely negotiated, but in those days, the boys were very reasonable. If I was patio side, and I saw someone of interest at another table having drinks alone or with his friends, I would send a drink, that always prompted a response.. If he was with a client, one never ever would be so rude as to send a drink, but rather a simple discreet nod was all that was needed.....

Oh the memories. One of the cute lines I got one night was from this hot little escort, who was so gorgeous most of the guys felt he was almost unapproachable. He was sitting alone at a table. I had the waiter send him a drink, and he sent it back and told the waiter to say "Tell the gentlemen that I hate to drink alone, I will accept the drink only if he joins me" A week later I put him on a plane for the east coast, to go home to his parents permanently. It was sweet.

My only experience in picking up guys has been in seedy escort bars in Hamburg, Frankfort, and Cologne and all you really needed to do (as often language was a problem) was carry a packet of cigarettes and first have the bartender ask a guy you were interested in if he wanted a drink (and they always did) so you buy one; he comes over to say "danke" and you ask if he wants a cigarette (again in those ways he always did); you chat (once you find a common language or way to communicate), and if you are interested, he sticks around (and usually you buy a 2nd drink) or if not, he simply moves on.

If you are on the 2nd drink, the bartender would discreetly ask if you want a room and loks towards the ceiling 9as the rooms were "upstairs), you pay a small fee and off you and your new friend go for a romp.
