I hate loosing Google maps. I played with iOS6 on a buddy's phone, and so far, Apple's map program isn't up to snuff. If I ask directions to 242 Main Street, it just gives me directions to the nearest intersection of Main Street, ignoring the street number, so I may end up miles away from my target. Also, it doesn't appear to have walking directions, a big deal in a city like New York with *lots* of one-way streets. Much has already been made of Apple maps not having public transit directions, too.

I'm downloading the update on my iPad to see if my issues may just be user error, but for now I'll hold off downloading it to my phone.

I was VERY VERY excited when I found out that FINALLY the IOS upgrade had been released. I have an iPad 2 and it was stated that SIRI would come to the iPad 2 in addition to the iPad 3. After the update was done however, I could not find SIRI anywhere. I had put on the best shirt and a nice tie to greet my new friend!

Today I am upset and frustrated as I realize that perhaps SIRI has stood me up. I would like to think that I am wrong but yet I've looked in the applications and system settings and she's nowhere to be found. As I sit here writing this after a sleepless night (still in the suit that I wore to greet SIRI from yesterday), I say, "PLEASE SIRI! CALL ME!"

LOL. All alone by the telephone?

Take a deep breath, relax a bit. Take a shower and put on you best duds again. When you're all ready, pick up your iWhatever and push the "Home" button and don't let up till SIRI arrives.

Now don't you feel a bit better?

Word of Warning

iOS6 has a nifty "Reset Home Screen Layout" function amongst its general settings which also trashes all of the groups you used to conveniently nest kindred apps. Be sure to back up first so at least you'll have what you sorted with what even it it takes a while to find where the damn apps got shuffled to.

Just out of curiosity, why would you use the "reset home screen" function if you didn't want to reset the home screen?

I upgraded my phone this weekend and haven't had any problems. Of course, I'm not looking for features that came after the iPhone 4 was released. (I skipped the 4S. I have enough people telling me what to do without Siri.)

I'm waiting to see how the iPhone 5 plays in Peoria to decide whether to upgrade. On the one hand, I want the LTE speed, but on the other hand the phone I already have is a *dandy* phone that I don't actually have problems with. <shrug>

Too much time on my hands?

I'm tough on cell phones. They've all lived in my pocket or they stay home: no fancy holders for me. Strange things happen in my pocket. It makes calls I never would and sometimes apps move around on the screen or even from screen to screen. Some even disappear without any notice. Well I sorta like original home screen so I thought that new feature would be handy. Oh we'll.

Yeah and I'm sticking with my iPhone 4 for a while (or until I totally trash it. LOL). Btw There's a guy locally who'll replace broken iPhone covers front or back while you wait. Jessie and I have become good friends. I now get a volume discount. Lol

Do tell! I think I'm jealous. :p

I haven't seen pocket dialing as a problem since I got rid of the old "candy bar" style phone, but I've heard it happens. The cases that make the news are usually when a criminal's phone butt-dials the police mid-crime.

I always just make sure the iPhone screen is locked before it goes in my pocket.

Only a4a can answer that.

Apps have been updating every day. I'd guess a4a may have used the old Google map service and may need a bit of a rewrite.

FWIW a4a radar no longer works on iO6 (at least for me). Any 411 on an updated app?

The A4A radar had some problems even before upgrading to iOS6. For some reason the radar did put me in IAD Dulles Virginia even though I was in Europe for quite some time.

Well they did sort'a. The new iO6 compliant a4a app appeared yesterday. And guess what? It can't connect with server. Thankfully Safari can get to to full version unlike Manhunt that automatically steers you to it's mobile flavor. So much for progress.

A message in response to a complaint to a4a about their latest app version.

As someone who has spent a career in IT, please allow me to translate:

"Mobile does not make enough money for us to devote resources to this issue. Go away."

If it were a money-maker they'd be all over it.

Hope this helps.

Oh. Now I get it. I guess that (and the nanny culture at Apple) explains why Rentboy hasn't gone mobile. And that's an instance in which I would have thought its paying clients, escorts, would be demanding it. Go figure.

Clients pay for rentboy? Go figure!

No the escorts do and handsomely considering the ad revenue Rentboy also pulls in from banner ads. I just would have expected escorts to have demanded some mobility features from Rentboy so that they could more efficiently alter their profiles via their smartphones or contact clients and potential clients.

Several years ago, while I still lived in NYC, I had occasion to visit Rentboys office in a 3rd floor walk up Fourteenth Street near Union Square. A friend on mine in the biz was traveling, had a log on problem and English was not his first language. He needed his profile changed quickly to reflect his next city. I had some time and thought it would be interesting so I agreed to do it. Deej, it was unlike any other IT operation you or I have seen. There were no cubicles. Just a few guys seated at expansive desks amid luxurious palm trees taking customer service calls. My friend's problem was quickly resolved but I couldn't help thinking about all the beautiful butts that had occupied that desk side chair before me. Lol

I absolutely love the rentboy office (save the three rather long flights up), but have never understood why 90% of these positions aren't in Terre Haute, or Chennai for that matter.

Sounds to me like the Rentboy NYC office is mostly customer service. I'd guess their IT work is done elsewhere. Probably offshore if they've followed the model that became popular after the dot-com bubble blew up.

That's my point: the coders do appear to be in Union Square.

Ah! I was right! Better butts than mine have sat in those seats. LOL
