This could actually be pretty good. They both have good a sense of humor and nothing to lose.

Have you seen any of the appearances former Presidents Carter & Ford have done together? They're fun, thought-provoking, and all done in incredibly good humor and with humility.

If Clinton & Dole can pull that off, it could be a real ratings spike for CBS. I may actually have to start watching that show again.

Yes, they are very good together, whether on political or other issues, in part because they have gotten to know, like and respect one another.

What may keep that level of good nature from happening is that Clinton still has a reputation to try to rebuild and both have spouses still in politics, both of whom have political aspirations.

So very true, as both spouses are now U.S. senators. If only this country wasn't so chauvinistic I believe we would see another Clinton/Dole presidential race, but this time it would be Hillary and Elizabeth! IMHO, either one would be a better president that her spouse was/could have been. Also, I hate Republicans, but I have always said to people who know me, that the only Republican I would vote for to be president is Elizabeth Dole. I think she would be a great president!

It's an interesting turnabout, isn't it?

Nancy Reagan is determinedly working to preserve the memory of her husband, while Mrs. Clinton and Mrs. Dole are trying to make their own road.

It's a matchup I'm actually looking forward to. They both have sharp wits and a few skeletons in the closet.

If they take the good-natured high road, they COULD actually set a tone that steers political campaigns back toward issues and away from smear tactics.

I don't expect them to do that. They'll go for ratings, of course.

But such is modern politics.

That's definitely true, especially wrt to foreign policy! You know when you travel in the world it boggles the mind that countries that have much weaker democratic traditions in Europe or Asia still manage to stage real debates with more diverse opinions than we get to see on our media. It's really an interesting tradeoff: stability and bland politics or diversity and more instability.

Strange Bedfellows

Do you remeber a Comedy Central segment during the Clinton/Dole race called "Strange Bedfellows"? It was Al Franken and Ariana Huffington in bed together each night for 10 minutes about the currnet state of the race. I loved it.

I wonder whats up with Ariana these days though. Her husband killed himself, and left a suicide note saying he was gay. Now shes doing those SUV commercials that seem to be poking at the republican party (she was a staunch republican at one time).

If all else fails Bob and Bill can compare stories of how they get it UP or keep it up and what/or who they use to do it. LOL HUGS Chuck}(

RE: Strange Bedfellows

Well that didn't take long. SNL's opening was the Clinton/Dole point counterpoint takeoff. Dole was the better of the two. I loved his tribute to Dan Ackroyd with his opening "Bill you ignorant slut!" I think this is great and brings back a lot of fond memories of youth. Or does that sentiment sound too much like someone using the board for therapeutic purposes?

Ooops sorry about that deej, we east coasters kind of forget that during the election day polls too. However, still tune in and see if you recognize who Dole is. I didn't at first. :)

Finally something inspiring in the news today. The economy is on the upswing as the unemployment rolls have been reduced by two well known entities. Is this a great country or what? Not only Bill

Clinton but also Bob Dole have found employment courtesy of CBS. A new version of point/counterpoint starring these two, will be making its debut on 60 Minutes. This should prove to be intriquing and make

at least the last few minutes of this show interesting again.

What I'm really looking forward to though, is the inevitable SNL parody. If it is even 1/2 as good as the Jane Curtin/Dan Ackroyd take off on the original James Kilpatrick/Shana Alexander version, then it should be a riot!

I can just imagine something along the lines of:

"Bill, you morally decadent, fellatio loving, spouse cheating liberal.

"Bob, you limp dick, viagara popping, pussy whipped war monger".

A much needed boost to two true TV classics.
