About a week ago I had the opportunity to view some very old footage of me between the ages of 8 - 13 years old. I seemed so happy back then, pretty good looking too :7 . I had not ever seen the film before (now transferred to DVD) and could not believe some of the things I seemed to be enjoying.

I apparently loved going ut on boats, any kind of boat. I loved swimming, biking, and playing sports. For the record I won't go on any type of boat these days, I don't play any sport and swimming is something I might do once a year now.

Anyway, the clips kind of freaked me out a little bit. The entire time I was watching these movies (with family) I kept looking for signs that I was gay. I couldn't find any. Not sure why that was so important to me or even what I was hoping to see. Maybe my parents dressing me in drag :7 ?

What I learned was that I really want to know what happened to that happy kid in those films :( .

I learned long ago that Happiness is a Journey and not a Destination.

Many times along this Journey we will find moments of Happiness along with the bumps along the way. We must realize that sometimes Happiness is not as hard to find as we may think, sometimes it finds us, but either way we ALL have our ups and downs.

Jackhammer is the perfect example I have seen of this Journey and maybe that is why so many, including myself, enjoyed reading about his Journey. It was not just about a trip to NYC, but here we witnessed a man that had told us about his battle with depression and then Witness some Happiness he found on this great Journey we call Life.

You may not recapture the Happiness of your youth but I assure you, somewhere there lurks happiness, hopefully when you least expect it.

Happiness is TRULY a Journey and not a Destination.

KY, you're on the mark. It is not just happiness we need but contentment. Day to day joy in what we are and what we do.:-)

RE: Looking At My ark

I prefer to say that happiness is all in the mind. The point is that we keep hoping that things outside ourselves will happen which will make us happy rather than adjusting our own attitudes to achieve present happiness. And when thing happen outside ourselves which we think will or should make us happy, we don't, because our attitudes don't change. We are still looking for something more to happen. We have all known or at leaset seen quite poor people or severely disabled people who seemed to enjoy themselves and show something like happiness. And many people who are rich and seem to have everything are miserable. No doubt money can eliminate some of the causes of real unhappiness, but it cannot give you happiness, because that depends on you own attitudes and outlooks. If you cannot adjust you attitudes to be happy under your present circumstances, you will never be happy, because it really depends on what is going on in your mind, and not upon your surrounding circumstances.

Live for today, tomorrow may never come. The past is nice to look at and at times I wish I could go back in the past to do things over again but I can't. It's not easy but I take it one day at a time. If I worry about tomorrow I'll put myself back in the funny farm.

I pretty much agree with Merlin. Acceptance of where we are brings contentment and contentment breeds happiness. That doesn't mean to strive for more, just come to realize that "more" may already be here.

sdg you are right. Actually, I will be moving int he morning and begin my new shift this Monday.

Therefore, it will probably be a hectic week or two and might take a few weeks to get DSL up and running at my new place ... so I probably won't be online quite as often for a while :( .

I am sure the above news brings joy to many and tears to a few :) .

Anyway, thanks for the feedback on this topic. I guess I was feeling a bit down last night when I posted it. Generally I am a pretty upbeat person.

Peace!

IF your Happy and you know it Clap your Hands. Well I think we are in control of what does and doesnt make us happy we to many times hide behind and make excuses for why we are not happy. If we put into life as much as we get out it would be a much happier place. We have an impact on more of our lives than we think. Look at MR. Rodgers who recently left us. Do you think he really knew the impact that he had on so many. He just tried to make some changes and some lives better and in many cases accomplised it. I could go back to that "little train that said I wish I can I wish I can ,and then changed it to I know I can I know I can ,and so can we. HUGS Chuck

>So if happiness is a journey, put me on the happy trail!

The one that goes from the navel south?

I've enjoyed a few of those journeys myself!:p
