Hey guys! I was wondering if anyone could post some info on Numbers in WEst Hollywood/LA? I have seen it and heard a little about it in ohter forums but I do not know too much about it. I am going to be in LA this week to visit family but wouldn't mind a little work too as I will not be staying with family but actually staying in the heart of weho.

Thanks,

Greg

Numbers is in the heart of Weho on Santa Monica Blvd and has a restaurant and bar with the booths and tables looking over the bar area so everyone can see who walking in while dining. They also have a outdoor patio(this is all on the second floor)where there are about 8n tables and guys walking around. My friends and I have dinner there about once a month as we know the owner/mgr(Tony), and the food is pretty good for a gay bar! It can be hit or miss but usually Friday and Sat.(beetween 9:00 and 11:00 best time) like most places, are the busiest. We were there last night(sunday) for dinner and at 7:30 it was pretty full, but emptyed out at 9:00. There were only about 4 guys "working" there last night and it appeared they all connected before we left at 8:00. I have been in there on a Tues, with the place 1/2 dead, but if a working guy shows up there is not much competition so he can do well. A couple of weeks ago a group of Latin guys from NYC came for a working week/vacation and they did well as they were "New" and attracted alot of attention. I am sure you will have no problem connecting and paying for your week there, good luck!

Does anyone know what happened to the old Numbers (on Sunset), why they moved, and why the new place seems to be so dull compared to the old one?

For those who didn't know the old one, it was on Sunset near Crescent Heights in a little strip mall. The extremely discreet entrance was in the rear (with the valet parking) so a "big name" could easily visit the place without being seen by all Hollywood. Not to mention that it certainly made it more comfortable for the married types who were doing something on the side. . .

The bar and restaurant were downstairs, in the basement, I guess. Not as large as the new Numbers, I don't think, but there was always a bevy of beauties working the place. I mean big time beauties! The place just seemed to have a lot of energy. What do you think (or know) did it in? AIDS? The Internet? The greater visibility of the new location? All of the above? Something else? Inquiring and nostalgic minds. . .

i was in LA last week and visited numbers for the first time. i was kinda surprised to find out it was more of a restaurant than a bar. i was expecting a darker place with good music. instead i found a more conservative and sedate place. it seemed more suited for couples than a meeting place for guys.

My uneducated theory is that the rent just got to be too high! The old locale was on a prime piece of Hollywood real estate - right next to a famous comedy club and an upscale old-style deli. And right across the street from Sunset Plaza, the big movie complex with a huge Virgin Record Store and Crunch Gym. I think maybe the deli (Greenblat's) took over Numbers' space for an expansion. I'm surprised a place of such ill-repute as Numbers lasted there as long as it did. Pity, now that I think of it, if it was still at the same old spot some of the beauties in Crunch Gym could stroll to work right across the street!

I never went into the old Numbers (it was SO descreet I could never find it!). But I agree that the new place seems like such a conservative restaurant type place. How does one hook up with a working dude? Just hang out at the crowded bar? Or is the action friskier on the outdoor patio section?

i agree never could understand how people hook up with working guys at this place. it isn't really set up in a way for any buyer-seller conversation like a strip club might be. it also seems quite hit and miss when it comes to guys working there. plus, why pay the extra dollars when for half the price you could simply hire off of santa monica blvd.

the guys at numbers (when you can find one) don't come with reviews or any better creditials than the guys on the street.

i am amazed that la doesn't have a gay strip bar/club like no hill or the ones mentioned on this board in montreal or even the gaiety. there is so much money in this town i find it hard to belive a trust baby hasn't opened a club up.

I was a patron of Numbers for many, many years, in both locations. The answers to your questions are pretty straightforward.

The concept of the old Numbers was a private club, with every members having a number, with a numbered glass on a shelf above the bar... I remember the old shelf, but found it after that idea was opened out to include a larger number of people. The old club was smaller, a little clubbier (in the sense of a gentleman's club) and seemed to have more of a working boy atmosphere. I met a lot of nice young men there, and there was a sense that the bartenders and staff got to know the customers and communicated pretty well, especially about potential problems with the boys. Numbers changed hands during its time on Santa Monica, when Tony and his partner took over.

It moved to Santa Monica for the usual reason -- a change in the lease. Tony is very tight lipped about it, but Idon't think it was anything more than a greedy landlord opening, through necessity, a new series of possibilities.

The new location is physically beautiful. It went through a shakedown period, in which it wasn't entirely clear that the management wanted the old crowd to migrate to the new place, but that wore down over time. Now it is a combination of the old and new, with a more than decent kitchen, fun waiters, and good drinks. There has never been a time that I go back there that there isn't someone I know already there, so it retains its old charm.

As for working lads, well, that's always a supply and demand thing. The internet has changed the escort business completely. There are often lads working the room, but not always. The thing o do is fix your lust on a likely lad, and chat him up, in the time honored way. You will find out soon enough. Like the Town House in New York, there are not only working boys, but also younger gay guys looking for older men, or just out for an evening.

I missed the old Numbers at first, but on the whole I think the new place is better. Certainly the room is spectacular, and the food is if anything better than it was in the old location. I unhesitatingly recommend it!

I spent a lifetime at the OLD Numbers, met some hot guys (but was still too fearful and usually missed out on opportunities), and was lucky for a time to take Marines there that a friend would import from Oceanside! ah, those were the days! :p }( :9

I have NEVER been to the NEW Numbers. A question I would like answered: What about parking?? (at the old place they had rather convenient valet service.) What's it like now that it is on Santa Monica Blvd. and with all that traffic in WH?

I'm glad to hear that the room is "spectacular"

I had heard many cool stories about the original Numbers. From what people I know tell me the new Numbers is really hit and miss.

Big thanks for sharing the information. It's interesting to read what an experienced patron feels about the place.

I haven't been there yet though plan to go within the next week or so since I have a bit of time on my hands. I hope my visit turns out to be a hit :) .

I go to Numbers about once every two months. There was no action while I was there last night.
