Given that this is a gay site and there are so many gay people in all areas of show business, let's get some thoughts on who/what will win the big 5 Oscars this year. I know another list post is tiresome at times, but as stated in another post let's have a fun thread. Who/what do you think will win and who in your opinion should win? Well, here are my thoughts:

1.Best Movie:

Will win: Chicago Should win: Chicago

2. Lead Actor:

Will win: Daniel Day-Lewis Should win: Daniel Day-Lewis

3. Lead Actress:

Will win: Julianne Moore Should win: Nicole Kidman

4. Supporting Actor:

Will win: Paul Newman Should win: Ed Harris

5. Supporting Actress:

Will win: Meryl Streep Should win: Catherine Zeta-Jones

For some reason, this year's nominees seem to be extremely difficult to select only ONE person or film or... In all of the nominated films, the actors were superb; the plots was stellar; the cinematograhy left one breathless: I could go on and on and on.

Since I have yet to see CHICAGO and THE PIANIST, I shall withhold anymore comment and return within a few weeks.

I like your thread, man! Thanks for beginning it.

PS I abhorred ADAPTATION; I just could NOT connect, therefore, I watched forty minutes of this flick and walked out, feeling no remorse...

I agree with most of your predictions, but for Supporting Actress:

Will Win: Queen Latifah. Should win: Catherine Zeta Jones.

(It's the cynic in me.)

And for those who haven't yet bought the soundtrack from Chicago, it's well worth having. It presents the songs "whole" -- i.e. without interruption by the scenes/dialog from the movie. It's worth having for the stuff that WASN'T in the movie, alone, and the stuff that was in the movie stands on its own feet.

I also think it will be a split vote this year

BEST PICTURE

SW-Chicago

WW-Chicago

BEST DIRECTOR

SW-Martin Scorcese(it's his 'turn ' to win )

BEST ACTRESS-

SW-Nicole Kidman

Renee Z are you KIDDING she wasnt even the best Actress in CHICAGO

BEST ACTOR

SW-Daniel Day Lewis(the best thing in Gangs.....BY FAR)

WW-Jack Nicholson(Good role but he's already won a ton of awards)

anyone having an Oscar nite party i love the whole shebang believe me its better being at home watching Joan Rivers bitch about who's wearing what then being there is SO boring as the whole thing is geared for tv.

Yawn... Stretch.... Scratch

Yes, those pesky little critters are back. While I have been busy dragging the Twinks to little unknown Fellini films starring Broderick Crawford (free blow job to the person who correctly guesses and posts before Noon P.S.T. Friday) and they have been sitting me down and restraining me while they munch on overly buttered popcorn and watch Joe Millionaire and bitch about the silicone and breast implants on tonight's Zone One "Hot" competition. So afterwards, we sat around and cast ballots for this "pathetic fucking queen" contest:

Best Director

WW - Marty

SW - Pedro Almadovar (I can be very persuasive)

IMHO - Todd Haynes should have been nominated and should have won

Best Picture

According to the Twinks, Lord of the Rings should win this, but they agree with me that Chicago will win, which we all agree is unfortuante. Again, I believe Far From Heaven should have been nominated and should have won.

Best Actor

The consensus here was that Jack would win this with no real opinions as to who should win, beyond certain votes to a certain wizard in a certain movie....

Best Actress[/i]

We were almost unanimous in our belief that Juliane Moore should win, but the Twinks split even between Selma Hayek and Diane Lane with one vote for Lilo, which was thrown out....

Best Supporting Actor

Will win: Paul Newman (how many more chances does he get?

Should win: Christopher Walken

Best Supporting Actress

The Twinks liked both Catherine Zeta Jones and Queen Latifah and thought Kathy Bates was great in About Schmidt but given that Juliane Moore will not be a consideration and that the two Chicago nominations could cancel themselves out, think that Meryl Streep (and no, we have not seen the movie) will be a sentimental favorite in a way that Queen Latifah is the popular and, in that respect, should win favorite.

Now back to the usual backbiting, nastiness and emotional ennui - we have better things to do, like still needing to cast a vote on who was "hot."

One of the few perks of a Screen Actors Guild card (there are 90,000 of us in the union and only 15 jobs!) is that we are able to get two tickets to movies nominated for SAG awards (which usually means any movie up for Oscar consideration) This year, the evil theater owners have eliminated most of the theaters honoring that policy, so I haven't seen most of the nominated films yet. I was really looking forward to seeing them this February. No, I am not cheap, I can afford to buy a ticket, but just always felt better shoving my SAG card through the window and getting two freebies. With moving, planning the trip to NY and everything else, I just haven't had time anyway. So I will sit out and not vote this year. Of the films mentioned above, I have only seen Chicago (which I really enjoyed ) and The Twin Towers . There are a few special Studio sponsored screenings in NY during the dates I will be there, so maybe I'll see a few while I am in NY.

Having just seen Chicago a second time yesterday, I must say it's better than I thought. I saw it first on New Year's Day and I was hung over I guess. I'm still undecided between it and The Hours for best film. They are both utterly engrossing, but so different.

As far as actors and actresses go, I couldn't say I'd be really pissed with any one of them as winners. However, Ed Harris is amazing and I want him to win in the worst way. He's a phenomenal actor in most all his roles, but in The Hours he is mesmerizing.

CZ-J, I admit grudgingly, does a really great job in her supporting role. I think she should win and probably will (unless the law suits backlash with the voters).

This has been a good year for films, so many I loved didn't even get mentioned: The 25th Hour, The Narc among them.
