You have a point; there's definitely a difference between the types of people who use the two constructions. But I'm not sure grammar is the only issue:

The types results aren't too different from the "u" ones. My hypothesis: "Individual" is a lofty word that people use when thinking big, abstract thoughts. "You" tends to accompany more concrete thoughts about solving problems in the here and now.
