The Porn Industry is in great sadness today. Reports that Erik Rhodes died this morning of a heart attack.

As I find out more I will add it to this thread.

RIP Erik Rhodes....

We have discussed his blog on this site in the past, and my reaction was that this guy needs help. He was very open about his struggles and his depression. Yet his latest posts are about a big steroid cycling program, and he is wondering if his liver will burst. UPDATE: The original statement that he had a heart attack has not been substantiated, at least according to a post at muscleservice. As usual, it is probably best to wait for the facts to develop.

The bf knew Erik in New York and liked him a lot as a kind-hearted person. We met him at a Long Island club before he became "Erik Rhodes" and we thought he was such a nice guy, but never imagined the porn stardom that was to come his way.

Christ. He was born on my birthday. (OK, it's not the same year; I'm a tad older, but still...he was only thirty...)

What a cruel industry. RIP.

Tyro

This is sad news but why do you blame the industry? Plus, it's not known exactly how he died yet.

Granted, I don't know anything about this guy at all, but I wonder if he would have abused his body so much if he were in another line of work. The steroids alone... :( I read just a few posts from his blogs. SO angry. I have to believe some of it was "roid rage."

The "culture" of the industry encourages self-destructive behavior; in Erik's case, by his blog, he "doped" to maintain his screen image, stamina and "perspective", and, of course, Matthew Bremer is a case in point of late.

Don't forget Brett mycles. Another died too young steroid alumni. I don't think it encourages them as much as attracts them.

I wouldn't blame the gay porn industry for Eric's death. There are thousands of gay porn actors who live long, healthy lives after they end their porn career. The root cause of this tragic death will most likely be Eric's severe addiction to anabolic steroids. It's interesting that the people quickest to deny the addictiveness of a chemical are always the most addicted to it....alcoholics, smokers, and steroid users all do this frequently. Whether or not Eric acknowledged it, steroids are physically and psychologically addictive.

He was entertaining to listen to. Sometimes he would co host the derik and romain show on xm radio. He was very unapologetic about his various kinds of drug use. I related because I've been there. I got older and wiser though so I mostly gave it up. Well, that and I'd be dead too if I still lived that way.

SO true robber...Erik and Brett, both great guys. I am saddened by the loss. If in fact steroids were the cause, that makes it even more tragic, because that is something that you can control, but if drugs also played a part, then it probably was inevitable. Steroids are everywhere, and they are so enticing.

sad that he was so young. if you want to blame someone, blame him. he was self destructive and appeared to revel in it. he used his 'damage' as entertainment to his readers of his blog.

folks are perfectly capable of being in porn and escorting and keeping a good head on their shoulders. life is about choices, but choices we make for ourselves.

Each person is utlimately responsible for their own fate. Yes there can be contributing factors to self destruction, however in most cases the destruction is caused by the individuals OWN indiscriminate acts and a fragile personality. People that arent strong enough to resist temptation become victims. The stronger ones will survive and DO.... the victims become todays fodder. Bottom line, its a tragedy...

Rest in Peace: Sweet, Handsome Eric Rhodes...

I did not know the gentleman, but just let him REST IN PEACE. We don't know what happened, but let the guy be and give his family and close friends time to personally grieve as they choose for a person they cherished!!!!!!
