Having a flame war will cause Daddy to get annoyed; You don't want to annoy Daddy; Daddy is not nice when he's annoyed...

Be afraid. Be very afraid. :)

So Daddy -- will you see the individual results or will that only go to the researchers. I know for certain you would be able to pick out my answers, which causes me no concern whatsoever. Just wondering.

Or perhaps you could go read the 1st and 2nd page of the survey and stop being the only one in the dark?

Besides all of this drama...Could Daddy just tell all of us what this is all about?

It seems to me that Daddy has created drama here which noone else here has the exact tools to respond to.

Why is that?

Just asking

I'll have access to the dataset. I will not be able to attribute your answers to you.

I have not taken the survey, nor have I looked at any of it's questions. Yet.

What study purpose will this survey fulfill, and, to who's/what benefit will it lend it's findings to?

I'm simply curious as to what the study is intended to conclude.

Thanks! :)

Very few academic studies in the social sciences have immediate benefits.

As far as the purpose, I'm guessing he'll break down engagement of bareback sex and level of concern about the escort's HIV status by age group, frequency of hiring, hiring of transgender vs. not, and so on. He'll use that to figure out which categories are at "higher risk."

There are some things I might have done differently and some other questions I would have put in, but the way he asked the bareback sex question was very smart.

I eagerly took the survey and enjoyed responding to the queries. I most liked writing my answers about my "most recent encounter" because it happened with the same escort just last evening.

It was our fifth time in being together and the longest. He's truly a sweetheart; he definitely knows how to please a man; he's "the best" man I've seen for many of the things that we do during

"our playtime." Last evening we happened to have been together for over two hours, and I had NOT made these arrangements prior to his coming to my hotel to meet and greet and play!

Sort of... It was more oriented to the "Street"...

I'd be open to such a endeavor... Just remember that from conception to paper, such a study can take well over a year and budgets right now are very tight...

I don't have the credentials to do a peer reviewed paper; however, it's been very tempting to do a informal survey as I believe that there are several misconceptions that would be useful to point out to the public.

Has a similar study with published results been done with escorts?

You/we saw those misconceptions last weekend, Daddy. Remember Jim, one of the non-forum guests at Helios last week. We were talking and he said that when he heard that there were going to be escorts at Helios that weekend, he was reluctant to stay. He had a pre-conceived notion of the type of guys they would be. He had envisioned street hustler type guys. But when he met the guys who where at Helios -- Rockin Dave, Steven Draker, Tyger, Nate Bruno, Ace -- his opinion about escorts and what they can do for men such as me, turned around 180 degrees. When he saw the concern they had for clients such as myself, each other, and the guests at Helios (especially Cigartop during his crisis), he was thoroughly impressed with the kind of men they were.

Dave and I were able to educate a few other guys out in the community throughout the weekend as well.

I certainly wish such a study could be done.

I thought it was interesting. If you are worried about tracking despite the assurance they are not tracking, you can always open a private browser...

I was supposed to be keeping track of numbers over all these years? I think it would have been more sensible to have ranges for the number rather than having to pick an exact number

I previously responded to this thread and truly found the potential results to be very educational based on the questions. One thing I MUST EMPHASIZE is the fact that DADDY would NEVER enter his guys into any database unless he was 100% sure of its security!!!!

For those who know him, you know I'm speaking the truth. For those who don't, he is probably the most techno security person I have ever met.

Go for it and wait for the educational results.

But this is not "Random population sampling." This is a variation of "Reference sampling" which is just as valid as the sample size grows. You may be interested in this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snowball_sampling

(Opps, sorry FleshFluff, just noticed your post; You are correct)

I am not willing to go into details until after the survey closes. The survey took about four months to construct. Most of the work was doing away with preconceived notions and rewriting to voice the questions from a neutral position.

(Oh Gawd, I'm starting to sound like Doctor Daddy)

Don't worry, Daddy. DOCTOR is a perfectly reasonable honorific.

If you go back about 6 years, there are only about 100 - 125 empirical research articles relating to male sex work research in the English language in reputable academic peer review journals. I believe the amount of research in female sex work is many times this amount. I would guess at least 10 x if you look at one of the most comprehensive reference books in the general field of sex work, which is Melissa Ditmore's "Encyclopedia of Prostitution and Sex Work" published in 2 volumes by Greenwood Press in 2006.

If only because of the massive imbalance in the quantity of studies published about male sex work vs. female sex work, this effort by Daddy and Dr. Grov should be supported with vigor, not picked at.

["Freshfluff" here knows what he is talking about, by the way!]

A note to those who discount the value of studying what we do, think, or feel: anyone is free not to read books or academic studies, or ignore them at will. Those who study what we do, think or feel are best left alone in terms of analyzing their motives or intentions. Let their efforts speak for themselves.

If you have time, a good entertaining DVD movie to watch about the study of sexuality is the classic "Kinsey" starring Liam Neeson, and also "hunks" including Peter Sarsgaard, who has a nude scene. It's not about escorting; it is only partially about gay life years ago. But you'll enjoy it immensely.

Best wishes,

BC
