Interesting thing about these historical figures: Jesus of Nazareth, Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Mohammad, Buddha, Crazy Horse, lao Tsu, Mencius, Plato, Socrates, author of the stone money and the Bhagavad Gita were not looking to be gods or prophets but simply sought wisdom thru the knowledge of their experience~ Not self serving but wanting for a better in the experience of our human experience as we share it~

Where are our modern day leaders in that light? Who is serving to do the good for the people by the people?

We should vote for them who strive for that, if they are out there, not the crafted officials that suppose themselves for their ow self importance?

Where are our true leaders?

Wisdom over knowledge... What else sustains life over the reality of it?

Jesus—executed

Ghandi—assasinated

King--assasintated

Crazy Horse—mysteriously killed while imprisoned

Socrates—ruled detrimental to society, given a choice between exile and poison…he chose poison

The pattern does not bode well for altruistic leaders.

Yet they remain true leaders and their pursuit motivates us and we found ourselves on the guidance they provide~

Our founders are not deconstructionists of Life or living it~ They show us how to live Life~

None of them ever had to raise money for a political campaign or run for public office, and except for King, none of them ever had to submit himself to the scrutiny of the news media. Jesus and Socrates also depended on good PR managers. None of them--even Jesus--could win the Iowa caucus.

Too many people in this country are willing to believe the LIE rather than take a few minutes to learn the TRUTH. That seems to be the case in all things these days, not just politics.

The human mind is more or less wired to try and find patterns in everything---it encourages survival in many instances. Unfortunately, we often see patterns where there are none, or we draw fallacious assumptions from patterns we observe. The historical leaders that were mentioned are all admirable and deserve respect. During their lifetimes I suspect they were not highly regarded and may have been vilified by many.(You see? Another pattern which may or may not prove anything.) Where are today's leaders? Living amongst us, quietly doing their jobs, searching for answers to the same quesitons that engaged the minds of: Jesus Christ, Mohammed, Lao Tse, Confucius, Gautama Buddha, Moses, et. al. Perhaps we are overlooking living men and women who one day may offer insights and leadership, but haven't emerged yet. On the other hand, is it possible that we are in a period of history when great leaders are not present because the time is just not right?

The old question remains: are great leaders just ordinary men who lived during extraordinary times? or do extraordinary men shape ordinary times into something spectacular?

All of that money for the political parties should go into a single large shared fund and split equally so each candidate can have the same financial advantage~ and OMG... NG received how many million dollars from the Adelson's Family~? Let's take a look... (BTW... take note of the last three sentences below... I can think of a lot better ways to spend $31 MILLION DOLLARS~). The campaigning is not even done yet~ Put that money into jobs or health care or...??? Already all of these people are dumping money into themselves and not into the american people~ They are spending it on mudslinging and out financing other campaigners~

"(Reuters) - Voters in Florida are about to be blitzed by ads worth $10.5 million in a growing media war between Republican presidential rivals Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich.

A pro-Gingrich group called Winning Our Future is pulling out the big guns in Florida, spending $6 million on Tuesday on advertising in the state, Rick Tyler, senior adviser to the group, told Reuters.

The Super PAC group helped Gingrich's surprising jump to the front of the pack in South Carolina and on Monday received $5 million in a donation from billionaire casino owner Sheldon Adelson's wife Miriam Adelson.

A funding group supporting Romney, Restore Our Future, on Monday made a $4.5 million purchase of advertising in Florida, said spokeswoman Brittany Gross.

Totalled with the spending previously disclosed to the Federal Election Commission, that pushes $10 million in pro-Romney efforts, with just a week left until Florida primary.

Florida is expensive for political campaigns, with 10 television markets, three of them in the U.S. top 20.

In a Republican primary, candidates must also advertise in Spanish as well as English in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale market.

The nearly $16 million now spent in Florida is the latest indication of the unprecedented amounts of money being poured into the campaign ahead of the November 6 U.S. presidential elections, especially by political action committees.

So-called Super PACs, the legacy of a 2010 U.S. Supreme Court ruling, can receive unlimited donations.

Although operating separately from the campaigns, the PACs are intimately familiar with the candidates' strategies. The PACs have become the new bullies on the block during the 2012 campaign, spending more than $31 million so far, more than half of it on negative advertising."

More probably the answer to that age old question is "Both" and sometimes even at the same time~ ie. Kennedy vs Hoffa~

P.S. I am glad you mentioned Moses. I was going to put him down too~

...and, what makes a great leader? It's not necessarily their goodness~ ie. (Hitler who, while I don't side with politically or ideally, was undoubtedly both an influential and prominent leader).

It;s the idea of "Kings"... all kinds of people will want and strive to be kings... some may achieve it and become a king BUT, True "Kings" already are what they are by not only circumstance but by nature... by their own nature. They ARE Kings~ Acting on it is a whole different story~

The old question remains: are great leaders just ordinary men who lived during extraordinary times? or do extraordinary men shape ordinary times into something spectacular?
