Actually BN could probably provide a very good timeline about HooBoy as an "inside-outsider" so to speak, but, luring him back as a poster would likely be like pulling teeth and like MsGuy alludes, possibly cataclysmic.

Best regards,

KMEM

I am enjoying the posts from guys who have been around from the time this all started.

I remember (how long ago was it?) when I finally was able to use internet through COMPUSERVE (eons ago), and began my first hesitent tries at somewhat anonymous gay social networking. There was a chat space on compuserve for M4M or something (this would have been in the mid-90's??) and it was towards the end of this initial period, through the chat boards in Europe on escorts, houses for boys (the good ol' days) and gay saunas, that someone led me to Hooboy and his site.

And I was fixated in the same way that jackboy described - losing sleep many nights discovering new and different ways to meet guys, social networking among a special group of men here on the boards - many who really were supportive, funny, erudite, and yeah, every now and then downright bitchy, but funny too. I missed over the years some of these guys (and know that many from that era would bnot want them back) but some of them had the wildest, funniest, most irreverent ascerbic tongues imaginable that brought some color to some drab days.

Aside from those highs and lows of the forums, the sincere outreach of members to each other, generally through private messaging, was touching, especially when someone was in trouble, hurting, in difficulty or just in need of a listener. Some here will never know how much I appreciated their counsel, and their support, and I hope I have been as helpful to others who approached me privately -- and always maintained discretion and mutual respect.

When Hooboy passed away, I started seeking out other forums and spaces (such as Muscle Station) but found the community of men here more to my personal liking. And even though I was then living 95% of the time in Europe, it was the most accessible place for English speakers around - and for me, still is.

time marches on...

This thread has brought back so many memories for me. I was a lurker in the forum when I went to Europe in February of 2002. I became an active member some months later. I was new to the internet so I got caught up in flame wars and learned the important lesson, not to feed the trolls.

I was an active member in 2005 when Daddy announced Hooboy's passing. Later I was saddened to see the bitter "custody battle" that ensued and asked Daddy to deactivate my status. Over the summer a friend asked me to reconsider my participation and after some thought, I asked Daddy to reactivate my membership. On my subsequent travels I posted announcements and arranged to meet guys in the cities where I traveled. I felt like it would be harder to engage in online wars with people I had met in the real world. I even arranged to have some of these men come to visit me when I took up my annual residence in Florida.

I have made so many good friends here all because a zany guy named Hooboy created a forum for like minded men. Reading of his struggles to keep a laptop operating, or even keep from losing it was an ongoing funny part of my day. Later when he posted a live feed from somewhere in the world and asked us to guess where he was, it was like traveling with him. He truly started the "Where in the world" routine. Sorry Matt Lauer.

Some others have taken his idea and started other websites. As long as they remain true to his vision, I guess they are welcome and even can use his name. But I have have felt more comfortable here in the original place amongst this group of zany Hoovillians.

As I come up to my ten year anniversary here, I am encouraged to see so many new posters and some many old time posters still "getting it on" the MC.

Here's to another decade.

Making history ...

This thread brings back some good memories for me too. Ten years ago, in December 2001 I did my very first working trip abroad. A trip to Paris. Fast forward, December 2011, ten years later here I am in Paris again, celebrating ten years in the industry with style. http://www.allmystery.de/dateien/uh44337,1292231991,00000443.gif

In the following year 2002, a prospective client has spotted my profile on Gaydar and made an appointment at his hotel. I still remember the location and all the details like it was yesterday. That person was the first who introduced me to the HooBoy site. Some old timers might remember him. It was Esc_Tracker (now missing in action). He wrote my first review, but by the time it was published there were two other reviews in the queue. He also introduced me to the Message Center and showed me an ongoing thread on his computer. Soon after I signed up and have been a member here since 2002.

I'm glad to be part of this online community for nearly 10 years and I will be forever thankful to HooBoy and Daddy for the opportunity they gave me to meet some exceptional people thru this website.

Namaste !
