Cash money was not specified as the aniticipated "surprise", and, on the occasion of our last meeting, compensation was, by his request, the settling of several outstanding bills. Given that his travel expenses to and from San Miguel Allende, and, of course, his bed and board in that place, go to me, will I be out of line to have a check sufficient to cover next semester's tuition to chiropractry school in his stocking on Christmas Day?

Not out of line at all, as long as you are comfortable with the amount you will give and it fairly compensates him based on whatever criteria you decide is appropriate. As he will be with you for Christmas, it would also be nice to have a tasteful present for him to unwrap. I refrain from stating the obvious as to what that tasteful present might be. But in my opinion, Christmas isn't Christmas unless there is a gift to unwrap (I'm not a big fan of only giving money, gift certificates, gift cards, etc).

As they say, I am a single man without issue, and, thereby, my "discretionary" funds are free and clear of claims of any "significant other". Too, I would consider the gift as an investment in a reality-based "future" for him; as with any number of rentboys, he has a desire to be a model, and, he had hinted at "more photographs". However, he is something less in height than the present "industry standard" which precludes "serious" runway work, print models, particularly "fit models" are a dime a dozen, and, he already has a good portfolio. I have not neglected the "wrapped gift", his first good quality fancy sport jacket; the check secreted in an inside pocket. HO! HO! HO!

I like your style rb4u Just a thought, something you have likely already considered, giving him money for school doesn't necessarily mean he will use it for that purpose and once it is given it is pretty much out of your control. I wouldn't want you to be disappointed if for some reason he decided to go ahead with a new portfolio instead or something else that you didn't really expect.

PK, if you havent noticed, there are ALOT of posts made here that seem to be overblown expressions of one's Ego. At times it seems like it is a "pissing" contest to see who has the best story

That is true, one of my long-time "steady dates" was a proponent of "unconditional love", that is, he was to receive all that he asked for in a relationship in the way of material things without any expectation that he would "give" anything in return, sexually or emotionally.
